5. Describe with emotions how music makes you feel…

Anyone who listens to or makes music has their own aspects and perspectives on how music makes them feel. For me, I like to listen to various types of music depending on the mood I am in. When I want to escape from the drama in my life, I listen to music that calms my spirit like the O'Jays, the Temptations, Marvin Gaye, Luther Vandross, and Gerald Levert, just to name a few. I go to Kaplan University and have classes on Monday and Thursday. On those days I just do not feel like going to class or doing my homework, I listen to artists like Tupac, Bone Thugs, Outkast, Ludacris, and Erykah Badu to motivate me. When I feel depressed and down, I listen to Mary Mary, Floetry, Angie Stone, Shirley Caesar, and Al Green. When I am mad or upset, I think I just add fuel to the fire by listening to Snoop Dogg, Eminem, Exhibit, Lil Boosie, and the Eastsidaz. Most of the time I am happy, relaxed, and laid back and listen to Freddie Jackson, Kirk Franklin, Frankie Beverly and Maze, Simply Relax, and Kanye West. Last, but never least, I like to spend time and be romantic when I am with that special someone so I listen to music like Frank Sinatra, Body and Soul, Heart and Soul, Ultimate Love Songs, and Midnight Soul.

6. Quote yourself on your music philosophy

For me, my music is my voice and my way of venting out to the world. Growing up in a poor family with a single mother and whatnot, music has been my only outlet.

"Interview with George Casino"

Q. At what age did you realize you wanted to become a music artist and why?

At fourteen, I realized I wanted to become a music artist. I have always had a love for music and wanted a career in music. I want to touch the hearts of others through making music.

Q. Most music artists have that special someone or thing that influenced their decision to do music. Did anyone or something in your life play a major role in influencing you to go into the music business?

My mother was my major influence for going into the music business. My mother was divorced and had to take care of seven children on her own. I did not like to see her struggle and have to work two jobs to provide for all of us and pay the bills.

Q. In terms of the music, which major artist(s) influenced your style and why?

Many artists influenced my style of music, like Stevie Wonder, Quincy Jones, Marvin Gaye, UGK, Outkast, Barry Gordy, Smokey Robinson, P Diddy, Jay Z, and many more because none of these artists came from rich homes and had everything on a silver platter. They worked hard to accomplish their goals and make something out of nothing.

Q. With so many independent artists trying to make it, what makes you stand out from the competition?

Competition is fierce and each artist has his or her own style. However, most artist use samples from other artists in order to make their music spark. The samples sometime give a more professional feel to the music. I have used no samples at all in my music. I do my music from scratch giving all that I have to each piece of music. The music is original with a style of its own.

Q. Music industry professionals are quick to say that being an artist means to gracefully fit a marketable niche in the industry. If you were offered an opportunity that asked you to be something you are not, would you do it to get your foot in the door?

I would take the time to listen and hear what the industry would offer me that would require me to act like someone else. At first, it might sound good, but in the end, I will have to stay with what and whom I believe in because who you are will always catch up to who you are pretending to be.

Q. Making music is one thing, selling it is another. What types of strategies do you use in promoting your artistic work and getting it heard by the proper professionals?

The internet is one of the best resources for me when promoting my music. I am getting plenty of feedback from other artists on Artistopia on what I need to do in order to get my music heard. I have also used Myspace, GarageBand, ringtones, and word of mouth.

Q. In regards to wheeling and dealing, how important do you feel business knowledge is to making it in an industry filled with much heartache?

Business knowledge is an important key to making it in the music industry. When dealing with people and documents the artist has to have a strong mind and character in order to obtain contracts that fit their needs.

Q. Let's fast forward to 5 years from now. What advice would you offer to struggling independent artists?

The advice I would give to struggling independent artists is keep your head up. Troubles do not last always and joy will come in the morning. Stay focused on your talent and keep your eyes on the prize. Do not give up, do not give in, and do not sell out. Patience is a virtue and you have to keep your joy even when things are down. You are too blessed to be stressed.

Q. Most successful artists are involved in charitable organizations that stand for a cause that hits close to home. In that regard, once you reach success, what charitable cause(s) would you like to be involved in and why?

I want to be involved with the Atlanta Community Food Bank to help provide food, day care, nursing homes, transportable meals, residential treatment, night shelters, and other services to those in need.

I also want to be a part of the AIDS Survival Project, to help those who diagnosed with HIV with finding solutions for treatment along with support groups and counseling.

Another charity I want to be a part of is The Carter Center because its mission is to bring peace and humanitarian aid to the world, which is something we have been lacking and are lacking now in days.

There are too many for me to name. I want to be involved in so many charities to help others get help even when they do not need it.

Well, we thank you for taking the time to interview with us and certainly wish you the best in your music career endeavors. There you have it ladies and gentlemen, an inside look into the mind of an independent artist struggling to bring their hard work to fruition in an industry where perseverance and thick skin means survival. No one said it would be easy.
