George Michael Davis

George Michael Davis

BandRockSinger/Songwriter

Michael Davis would stare through the flames of his own wreckage and think, "Fire is still beautiful." Simultaneously hopeful and melancholy, Michael Davis' country and folk-edged rock swings with moods of destruction and rebirth, with the honest delivery of the Southern songwriter tradition.

Biography

Having fronted hard rock band Leptic and co-founded currently performing americana outfit Medford's Black Record Collection, Michael Davis' roots have grown and spread in the Knoxville music environment. With these two previous musical endeavors in mind, Davis' folk steeped rock is not the surprise that fans of Medford's may intitially find. Drawing from equal parts 90's Grunge and Bakersfield Rockabilly, and seasoned with such varied spices as metal, electronica, and bluegrass, Davis' recipe creates some unique flavors. The end result though is always focused on delivering a concise, directed, and thoughtful song through a powerful and genuine voice. As yet in infancy as a solo performer, Davis is beginning to pique interest from accesible and personal live appearances and will be featured as a semifinalist in the 2010 Knoxville Sound-Off competition.

Clocks and Calendar Pages

Written By: Michael Davis

Clocks and Calendar Pages

Singing nothing but your best friend's funeral song will bury you
Underneath clocks and calendar pages
The hold you have on the hurt you feel will only keep its hands on you
And leave us all as children with false ages

We're all just trying to keep our heads up and our feet down
And recall the words of rejected sages
Treading lightly on the paths that lead us home
To live in our own time, not in clocks and calendar pages

I know sadness is the arm you'd miss the most
But the hand that wounds itself is not best to trust
You don't have to suffer now for mistakes you've yet to make
There is air in between when the dust returns to dust

We're all just trying to keep our heads up and our feet down
And recall the words of rejected sages
Treading lightly on the paths that lead us home
To live in our own time, not in clocks and calendar pages

Don't cast your hope on the morrow
Nor on yesterday
Neither one is gonna lift away the weight that you
Feel

We're all just trying to keep our heads up and our feet down
And recall the words of rejected sages
Treading lightly on the paths that lead us home
To live in our own time, not in clocks and calendar pages

Tigers

Written By: Michael Davis

Tigers

When i was young, i used to draw tigers
They hunted through jungles with eyes beaming gold
Entranced I sat rapt at the looking glass of paper
I went through it to see myself becoming my muse

consumed by a purpose, i stalked through the grasses
my every step driven by singular cause
My quarry it trembled for it never escaped me
My might was my legend, no capacity to lose

Oh to be like that now...

With my trappings and failings, my follies are too real
it's my hand that does trembe, my purpose that diveides
Just a shadow that's left since it's light faded away
And my searching glances are not of those eyes

oh to be like that now...

Oh creatures of wonder, oh where have you gone?
Where do your fearsome forms hide now?
What paths to elude your captors have you trodden?
You were the hunters, what need have you to fear?

Oh to be like that now...

I step out in the dark night perhaps for its passing
I am keenly aware of my nakedness now
In my mind's eye its frame walks out of the shadows
And I feel myself staring through the paper again

Its gaze has not changed, its step is no slower
Its purpose no different from times long ago
In its eyes there's no wanting to be more than its being
And I can see that its never even known what it was

Oh to be like that now...
