Biography

I was never born. I just arrived one day in the back of a taxi, wrapped in blue and wearing a decent impression of Winston Churchill. It was late December and the geese where obese. Still, my sister swears I was the best Christmas present ever. Bred (and buttered) in Dublin, educated by the Christian Brothers, but I’m alright now. Delivered by whim to Sydney in the eighties. Sang, wrote and recorded with Brisbane band, My Three Sons. One single: Walkaway. One album: Wages of Sin. Producer: Peter Wilson. Pop music in the glory years of Aussie pub rock. Last song proved prophetic: Too Soft For This Country. Retired hurt. Got on with life: job, two kids and a donkey. Rediscovered longing and angst in the shed thanks to a desperate spouse, a cheap keyboard and Cubase Lite. Now I’m bitter and twisted and all out of shape. Got a hole in the place where my heart used to ache. So much to live for and so little time to repent.

Lyrics

We both wear the scar

Written By: Gerard Reynolds

You feel cold, but your eyes are ablaze
You can’t sleep, the days go for ever
The mind hides what it cannot erase
But you remember, don’t you?

So many secrets, so little time
A moment of pleasure, a life to recover
The heart fears what it cannot deny
Must be November

And you know who I am
And you know where I’ve been
I come from under your skin
I am sin reincarnate
And you know who I am
I am everything you need
I’m the air that you breathe
The seed of the harlot

Where lives the boy with no name?
Who gives him joy, gives him succour?
Who bears the brunt of his pain?
And do they suffer like I do?

So many questions, so little grace
A moment of weakness, a life to uncover
Who knows the warmth of a smile on his face?
Well, not his mother

And you know who I am
And you know where I’ve been
I come from under your skin
I am sin reincarnate
And you know who I am
I am everything you need
The very air that you breathe
The seed of the harlot

But know this: I do not judge you
Such is the way of things such as they are
And know this too: I have no love to give to you
There is a wound that’s all
And we both wear the scar

48 reasons to lie

Written By: Gerard Reynolds

It’s easy for you, you’ve got god on your side; you’ve got heavenly angels and virginal brides
But here in the darkness there’s nowhere to hide from the march of time
And I’m all out of hope, I’ve got nowhere to run; I cannot believe I’m the man I’ve become
I’m bitter and twisted and all out of shape, got a hole in the place where my heart used to ache
Had so much to live for, yet still not enough to decline

It’s been 48 summers with nothing to show; so close to departure but nowhere to go
And as time ever marches the future’s the foe and she won’t relent
I’m so out of touch I can’t fake it no more; I used to be someone you could choose to ignore
I was foolish and shallow but I still had my dreams; had the chance to believe what these eyes could not see
So little to live for, and so little time to repent

I grow old, I grow old, I’ve gone and thrown my life away
It gets cold when your heart beats slower than time
I grow old, I grow wild, I’ve got 48 reasons to lie
I grow old, and know it, and that’s life

The sun also declines

Written By: Gerard Reynolds

Guess I was in love with you, but this I will deny
Time to be through with you and I don’t need reasons why
Time to get out of here, leave all my troubles behind
We were just making hay while the sun declined

Yes we had the best of times, but few are far between
Funny when the sun don’t shine, nothing’s as it seems
Time to get out of here, close all the shutters and blinds
We were just making hay while the sun declined

Yes I was in love with you, but this I will deny
Had a heart that’s true, but the truth can be cruel and unkind
Had enough of you, now its bye-bye
We were just making hay while the sun declined

Now is the place (Katie's song)

Written By: Gerard A Reynolds

Here is the dress she never wore
Hung like a wreath on her bedroom door
Katie's alone again, forever alone
Here is the life she never saw

Here are the books she never read
Scattered in leaves across the bed
Katie's alone again, forever alone
Here are the words she left unsaid

Here lie the dreams left unfulfilled
Stuffed in a drawer with her unpaid bills
Katie's alone again, forever alone
There goes the promise, here comes the will

Here are the hopes she never shared
Hung out to dry in the stifling air
Katie's alone again, forever alone
Here are the friends left unprepared

Here are the vows she never swore
And here is the child she never bore
Katie's alone again, forever alone
Where is the life worth waiting for?

Where are the lines upon her face?
Where is the rise and fall from grace?
Where are the love affairs? Where is the faith?
Here is the time, now is the place

Find a way

Written By: Gerard A Reynolds

In every heart there's a part waiting to be broken
In every soul you'll find some sign of decay
You can wait a whole lifetime for the right words to be spoken
Or you can find a way

In every deed there's the seed of love and affection
In every lie you'll find the eyes will betray
You can waste a whole lifetime looking for perfection
Or you can find a way

Find a way to make it right
Find the thing you love and hold on tight
Where there is darkness try to shed a little light
Find a way my friend, it will be alright

Nobody knows my name

Written By: Gerard A Reynolds

Everyone's getting younger
Everyone looks the same
Everyone wants to live for ever
Nobody acts their age

Everyone's working harder
Everyone feels the strain
Everyone needs to get a little crazy sometime
Nobody thinks it strange

Everyone's none the wiser
Everyone prays in vain
Everyone wants their very own slice of heaven
Nobody knows the way

Everyone walks with Jesus
Everyone wears his pain
Everyone swears their going to find the time to love everyone
Nobody knows my name

She bleeds when cut

Written By: Gerard A Reynolds

Even when the sky is falling
She stands like a bridge
Let's the whole world walk all over her
But she ain't gonna give
Even when the sun is shining
She's cold as a knife
Blame it on the bad moon rising
She calls it sacrifice
And she bleeds when cut

Even when the storms are raging
She sits like a judge
She's reached that certain age of reason now
She ain't gonna budge
Even when the kids are crying
She's drier than ice
Blame it on a new dawn rising
She's deep at half the price
And she bleeds when cut

Over and over and over again
Life pulls you under and leaves you for dead

She bleeds when cut
She feels too much
She longs for touch
She bleeds when cut

Gone

Written By: Gerard A Reynolds

Gone like a summer breeze
A gentle tease that just disappears
Gone like happiness
A sweet caress in this vale of tears
Gone like a sin that's forgiven but never forgot
Gone, but not

Gone like the morning mist
A lover's kiss on a sleepy head
Gone like innocence
A brave pretence in the skin we shed
Gone like a wound, a contusion that suppers and scars
Gone too far

She's going, she's going, she's going
She's gone
