Aspirations, pure beauty, perfection, intricate harmonies, intriguing rhythms, virtuosity, a deep voice susteined by amazing instrumental taste, a myriad of arabesques melted into a clear style where several genres form a brand new one and much, much more...GHETONIA really stands for nirvana music!
Lyrics range from ancient songs of "Graecia Magna" that throve in Southern Italy from 900 b.C. onwards up to popular Griko's poets of the last century, while music is almost entirely composed by group musicians in a way where melodies seem to be very ancient and classic.
The band sings in Griko, the very Homer's language that has been speaking for 3.000 years in Southern Apulia region, geographically the Italian one closest to Greece ("Grecia Salentina"): this is a place where old Greek culture miraculously survived and remained incontaminated. The band features the genial Albanian composer and virtuoso Admir Shkurtaj on accordeon that is well renowned in contemporary music as well in jazz. These strong links with Eastern European countries are the main highlight of GHETONIA's music, perhaps the most supreme living expression of Byzantine musical culture in the Mediterranean area. GHETONIA's music features a huge touch of contemporary music, where tonality and non-tonality reach the borders of a modern art that thrusts its basic elements in the very ancestral harmonic and melodic tradition of GRIKO culture.
