Bio

Paul Smith was born and raised in Halifax’s North End Community of Uniacke Square. From a young age he involved himself in anything music related from pageants and community events as a child to battles and ciphers on the corners and in clubs as he grew up. Taking the stage name Ghettochild, he along with fellow Squaretown artists AWOL, T Bone D and Jordan Croucher (JRDN) created the scene changing group NEP. NEP released many mix tapes together before eventually branching out as solo artists. As well as performing and recording as a solo artist, Ghettochild was later a part of the group Heavy Spittaz, gaining Canada-wide exposure for their hype sound and performance style. Ghettochild has released three mix tapes as a solo artist, 2003’s “Haligonian”, 2005’s “The Fax of Life” and 2007’s “Time to Get Serious”. Ghetto took his last mix tape title and ran with it spending the next three years working with award winning producers Classified, Tone Mason, Kuya Productions and other local up and comers to create his debut album, titled “In the Making”, released in 2010 In recent years Ghetto has had the opportunity to open for many international artists including Nas, KRS-One, Ludacris, Redman & Method Man, Kardinal Offishall, K-OS, Raekwon, TPain, Ne-Y, DJ Jazzy Jeff, Choclair and Saukrates and Nelly. Ghettochild has been nominated for three awards at this year’s Nova Scotia Music Awards: Best Digital Artist, Hip Hop Artist of the Year, and Video of the Year for his song “On the Move ft Chad Hatcher”. Ghetto has appeared on Jordan Crouchers 2007 debut album “No Dress Code” and Classifieds 2009 album “Self Explanatory”.
