Bio

Seattle Indie Rock/Soul quartet Ghost Lobby is: Tara Ellis (guitar/vocals), Fritz Martin (bass/backing vocals), Bill Harms (keys), and Bob Zammit (drums). Four very different musicians with four very different backgrounds unified in a diverse and compelling aural alchemy. Tara Ellis, who got her start in the Seattle scene behind a drum kit, combines precise rhythmic guitar playing with her sultry vocal delivery to help forge a dialogue between the music and the audience. Fritz Martin, bassist and backing vocalist, began in the Midwest hardcore scene before branching into blues and funk. Bill Harms, with a predominately blues background, approches rock keys cinematically rather than structurally – a philosophy that sings through in the fluidity and ambiance of his playing. Completing the line up is Bob Zammit on drums, whose explosive style and focus can be attributed to his experiences in pop punk and drum corps.

This potent musical cocktail is the reason to pay attention to March, recorded with Scott Colburn (Arcade Fire, Mudhoney). Intelligent lyrics lock into complex rhythms while riveting bass lines pair with lush, soulful keyboards. The group adds layer upon layer of individual expertise until core ideas mature into full orchestration. Each piece is free to develop a life of its own, unbound by expectation. Each song is a story told in its own way and yields a surprising variety of styles and emotions. Every listen uncovers a new layer, a new turn of phrase, a new reason to listen yet one more time -- musical complexity of the best sort. It’s a tasteful album that delivers emotional lyrics, refreshing variety, instrumental beauty, and stunning sonic layering.
