Ghosts of Reason

Ghosts of Reason is the solo project of singer-songwriter Robert Keene; a format to allow for a show that would feature a mix of impactful covers, original compositions, as well as jazz and classical piano pieces.

Robert Keene has been playing with various bands in the Seattle area for years, studied classical music theory and voice in university, and also plays as an improvisatory musician. These experiences introduced him to a large variety of styles, instruments, and musical visions. As he worked in these capacities, a thesis began to develop of music as a uniquely transcendent experience. Despite their significant differences, much of the music he was able to work on had a profound emotional effect, both on himself and audience members. No one seemed to have the language to explain it, but it was quite clear and real when it happened.

Ghosts of Reason is an attempt to synthesize these various musical influences into a cohesive whole through the lens of music as an inner journey into the unknown depths of emotional realm. In less pretentious terms, it’s a show of songs and musical pieces that have managed to have a deep emotional impact on Robert Keene, and original works reaching towards that same space.
