Ghost Television

Jacob Budziak & Paul Daniel Watson met at Central Technical School (Toronto CA) in the fall of 2001 and saw that they shared similar artistic tastes.They were lazy and self-medicating art school students who recieved comfort and inspiration from a wide variety of music, art, and film. Half way through their first year of friendship, they embarked on a school field trip to Ottawa and Montreal. It was there that they began to collaborate musically by Jacob Beatboxing and Paul freestyling as a way of entertaining their classmates on the bus. As the months progressed they became more involved and interested in musical creativity, at the same time, becoming more bored of school. It was during this time that Paul, Jacob, and their close friend, Eastern Yoo, went on opening night to see Eminem's auto-biographical film, "8 mile". They were greatly inspired by the film which led Jacob & Eastern to the idea of forming a band with Paul. Over the winter of 2002- 2003, Jam sessions were held at Paul's house which featured Paul on vocals and turntable, Eastern screaming into a microphone, and Jacob performing beats on a Roland MC-303. In the next month or so, Paul and Jacob's comittment to this project strengthened, whereas for Eastern, it did not and his schooling remained his priority. It was decided by Paul and Jacob that Eastern leave the band. However, the three remained friends.
Paul & Jacob began to aquire more and more knowledge on song structure and production technique. As time went on, they began preparing to unleash their music on live audiences. It was a desire for Paul & Jacob from the very beginning to be a live electronic act, because this would set them apart from the majority of electronic musicians, who work exclusively in the studio. And so they began to perform at numerous clubs in Toronto, leaving a mark on all who witnessed their performance.
