Bio

With a sound like no other, Giants and Toys is an up-and-coming band that you don’t want to miss. The group consists of Chris Estes, Jack Kish, John Nicholson, Mike Messina, and James Vance. From their diverse musical backgrounds, a completely new style, original to Giants and Toys, is born – but if a label must be placed on their sound, indie rock-and-roll is the best fit. Pulling inspiration from such artists as Modest Mouse,The Killers, Kings of Leon, Tom Waits, and The Strokes, Giants and Toys call upon personal experiences and deeply, humanizing stories, which produce the perfect mesh of lyric and complexity of song.
The group began in Montevallo, AL in 2008, and while some might be tempted to call them a “garage band,” that categorization could not be further from the truth. This title suggests a small sphere of influence, but Giants and Toys have played in Tennessee, Indiana, Decatur and Birmingham, AL, as well as recording their first EP, The Strand, in Athens, Georgia. But don’t take my word for it! Check out a live show for yourself and see the amalgamation of the guys’ talent, heart, and wicked dance moves. From Mike’s intense facial expressions as he hits those high notes, to the frequent instrument exchanges, confetti cannon explosions, and Jack’s rocker personae, dancing and kicking his way across the stage – Giants and Toys offer a dynamic visual aspect to their musical prowess.
Giants and Toys is a Southern-grown band full of depth and talent. They just don’t make bands like they used to, but the town of Montevallo holds the exception. So, be the person who can rightfully claim that you knew this kick-ass band before they made it huge – buy their EP, The Strand, before the other hipsters beat you to it.
