The best kept secret in music
Press
Boston's own Gifrants has released a new album on the market for the Christmas season. The album, "Twoubadou Sèk" features 14 songs that stand to impact audiences interested in hearing or discovering Haiti's diverse Afro-rhythmic traditions.
There are albums that come along and defy our ability to do them justice with words. Edy Brisseaux's "Bazilik" is one example, Coupe Cloue's "The Preacher" another. Gifrants's latest, "Twoubadou Sèk" reaches far beyond those achievements and carves a place for itself within the context of Haiti "Rasin" Jazz traditions while remaining a hybrid far distinct from most of what has ever happened in Haiti's musical output. The compositions are among the most original, and unheard of musical triumphs to come out of the Haitian Jazz or Rasin movement. You will dance and dance to this album. You will discover and rediscover the music, and best of all, you will grow old and pass this album on to your children. Accompanied a host of diverse and talented musicians, Gifrants, in songs like "Kanzo", "Espwa", "Dans", "Siwo" brings us the hottest sounds of the Haitian countryside. Here, we dance barefoot to rhythms that seep from the soil of the land, swaying alongside those who till that land, endure its harsh rations, and yet rejoice in the coming sunset, the thump of drums, and the rhythm of words sung in the marriage of long lost African scales.
"Twoubadou Sèk" delivers quality musicianship at a pace and tempo which retains the listeners attention and interest. It is a revelation of the promise yet present in the untapped musical resources locked in the sounds of Haitian folklore. It is the rap of the meek to whom the earth is someday promised. It is Gifrants at his acoustic best!

Bio
With over thirty years of composing and performing experience, Gifrants has reached a new plateau in his unique and sultry genre of fused jazz and traditional pan-Caribbean music. This seasoned artist has entertained the east coast with evocative rhythms and stories brought to life in live settings with an unrivaled passion.
It is a long road to forge a new genre of music, but this is exactly what Gifrants has done over the span of his career. Performing in the heart of academia—Harvard Square—and in prestigious venues like New York’s, SOB’s, Neil’s, as well as South Beach’s Jazid and beyond, this dynamic entertainer has sold over 40,000 CD’s, all without major label backing.
Gifrants has released 11 full-length projects on his label Gaëta Records. Writing, producing and acting as his own publicist, he is often accompanied by a revolving cast of Boston based jazz luminaries who perform his songs in both live and studio settings.
