Cling, Cling! Clack, Clack!

Written By: Matthew Rogers

Cling, Cling! Clack, Clack!

Cling, Cling! Clack, Clack!
The roads need fixin’
so more cars can pass.
Zing, Zing! Zap, Zap!
these lofts need a buildin’
so more folks can relax.

They’ve paved a paradise
and put up some lofts,
left ‘em with nowhere to park.

Cling, Cling! Clack, Clack!
The subway needs extendin’
so commuters can be taxed.
Chop, Chop! Axe, Axe!
the trees need a choppin’
for old-growth knick-knacks.

They’ve paved a paradise
and put up some lofts,
left ‘em with nowhere to park.

Now the Junkies have a palace without a roof,
a fancy alleyway to shoot their stuff,
and the panhandlers, a stage like Christ Church.
They’re all gettin’ high in a remax balloon,
smokin’ cigars and enjoying the view,
remarking there’s no free parking
from vermont to pacific avenue.

Bang, Bang! Shoot, Shoot!
A man with a stethoscope
took all the loot.
Ka-ching, Ka-ching!
What a joke.
Dr. Jacks just jacked
a dive dealing coke.

Rent hit the roof,
and his bills did too.
it left ‘im with nothin’ to lose.

Puff, Puff! Inflate, Inflate!
Who can pay the man
but with drugs and real estate.
Scribble, Scribble! Start your career!
a cop’s chasin’ a robber
who makes a million dollars
a year
in jail can break your heart
and with a past there’s no future in your
cards.
sooner or later it falls apart
and you Gotta go deal in the park.

Cling, Cling! Clack, Clack!

Blue Eyed Jesus

Written By: Matthew Rogers

Blue Eyed Jesus

It’s a little known fact
That Jesus played guitar,
And had a voice like silk
That gripped peoples’ hearts.

It’s a little known fact
disciples were his band.
Peter on drums,
John on bass,
Judas played the tambourine
(he was bitter).

Blue Eyed Jesus, Sing us a song!
With your heavenly voice echoin' through space.
And all of Nature will sing along.
Sparrows take soprano, whales take bass,
Waves crash at a metronomic pace,
Thunder rolls at the perfect place,
He plucks the strings with immaculate taste.
Blue Eyed Jesus, Sing us a song!

It didn’t take long
To go from playing bars
To seeing his name in lights
Reading ‘Jesus and his twelve
Rock the house tonight.’

I guess he had connections
That got him far.
guess being God’s only son
You’re bound to be a star.

Blue Eyed Jesus, Sing us a song!
With your heavenly voice echoin' through space.
And all of Nature will sing along.
Sparrows take soprano, whales take bass,
Waves crash at a metronomic pace,
Thunder rolls at the perfect place,
He plucks the strings with immaculate taste.
Blue Eyed Jesus, Sing us a song!

Jesus Sing us all your hits
Like the Sermon on the Mount,
And the Parable of the Good Samaritan.
You know all the chords,
You have perfect pitch,
You have such an original sound,
(I’m your biggest fan.)

Despite his success,
Things came to a vicious end.
Judas got jealous
And plotted his revenge.
The papers printed articles
That Jesus was a fake,
And rumors spread
That he was not who he claimed.
Many fans were swayed
By the media’s take.
They burned all their Records,
Posters, and tapes.

And on the day
That his critics crucified him,
He sang his last song
To those that betrayed him.
He said ‘Someday you’ll see
That I’m just a victim
In the music biz
You can never really win.
One day you’re Number One,
The next,
You’re in the bargain bin.

Blue Eyed Jesus, Sing us a song!
With your heavenly voice echoin' through space.
And all of Nature will sing along.
Sparrows take soprano, whales take bass,
Waves crash at a metronomic pace,
Thunder rolls at the perfect place,
He plucks the strings with immaculate taste.
Blue Eyed Jesus, Sing us a song!

Stray Dog

Written By: Matthew Rogers

Stray Dog

I walk the line
between disaster and fame.
Feeling troubled, seeing double,
staggering down the lane.
There's an old dog beside me
without any name.
He leads, I follow
hoping he knows the way.

A stray dog is walking me home.

He's got one blind eye
and one limping leg.
He's starving, he's dying,
but never stops to beg.
He knows these streets
like the back of his paw.
Down sidewalks, through alleys,
he leads me on.

A stray dog is walking me home.

We're not so different
you and I.
It's just You bark, and I talk,
but we still see eye to eye.
All we want is a place
that we can lay our heads,
some love, some meaning,
and a warm soft bed.

A stray dog is walking me home.

I feel above all this,
but I've sunk to a whole new low.
Being walked by a dog
is no way to get home.
God what an angel
that you chose to send.
I resist, and deny,
but you know you're lost when...

a stray dog is walking you home.
