Midnight Magazine

Imagine a bright sunny Sunday, early in the day, early in spring, the air is crisp and clean, and you are working. You are a truck driver. You pick up dangerous industrial wasted in the east side of LA, and deliver them to a plant in Mexico that makes Guess jeans. You love listening to KROQ, and are having a grand time. But suddenly, a cloud covers the sun, and your radio starts acting up. Partly Cloudy have managed to combine industrial, and gloomy sounds, with almost psychotic lyrics, to create a truly unique sound. The album opens with an almost pop number, Trouble. The album slowly evolves through Partly Cloudy’s styles, touching on a nightmare, urban angst Bus Ride, and ending with a violently emotional number Unhallowed Ground.

Partly Cloudy, with the upcoming release are preparing to again drive their own industrial wasted, and anti-pop sensibilities into the LA club scene. They will be performing early in June, and the release should follow soon after.

You should miss neither this band, nor their release.

"Catazine"

I was privileged to participate as the Disc Jockey at Jack’s New Years Eve Party held downtown LA. Live acts included Partly Cloudy, The Blue Daises, and My Sin. All turned in fine performances, but the one that caught my ears was Partly Cloudy. Mixing Industrial strength keyboards with rhythm machines and a power drummer, Partly Cloudy is a party band that does not lose its cool. Only goes to show. Some bands can sound good.

Bio

Gigi Drums’ four members include Gigi, Faizah, Luke, and Frank. They play music of syncopated rhythms and provocative lyrics. Their compositions have elements of jazz, punk, traditional salsa roots and uncharted waters “the hippopotamus rhythm”.

Gigi is an innovative and exceptional female drummer, percussionist, and composer who created the Hippopotamus Rhythm, which is based on patterns of a five pulse beat.
She holds a Bachelor's of Music from the University of Southern California and has studied at the Juilliard School of Music and the Interamerican University of Puerto Rico. Her endorsements include DW Drums, Sabian, Regal Tip, Rhythm Tech, and Audix. She was the drummer for Partly Cloudy, an industrial band. Her performance credits include Lionel Hampton, Patrice Rushen, and Tito Puente.

Faizah has been a lead vocalist of many bands in Singapore, has lived in European and now resides in Atlanta, GA.

Luke has toured all his life and played many festivals including SXSW. This is Luke…
I can not believe some of the stories, and adventures I've accumulated over the years; tea with joujuka players in Morocco, concerts in Medillin, Colombia, '98 World Cup in Paris, Manhattan is its own monster, lived in Austin, TX for 10 years, been stranded in 1/2 our countries airports. Was in Sevilla, Spain on 9/11, the Louvre, enjoying the Egyptian exhibit when a piece was STOLEN!! I love Venice Beach, am amazed how quickly weather can change in the Alps, spend a lot of time in Chicago, canoed the everglades with alligators in the water, crashed at a cool artist colony in Holland. I get to hang out in old theatres, play bass in cool rock n' roll bands, have an amp bigger than my car, seem to fly a lot, and like romantic era classical music...

Frank is often compared to Donny Hathaway and Stevie Wonder. He has collaborated with many renowned recording artists including Prince, Chaka Khan, Teddy Pendergrass, Gerald Levert, and Teena Marie.
Frank endorses KORG.

All members of the band have extensive backgrounds and come together with this project to enter uncharted waters.
