A Good Name

Written By: Giles Canter

I’M NOT QUITE SURE HOW TO SAY THIS
I’VE NEVER DONE THIS BEFORE
BUT, SIR, I’D LIKE TO MARRY YOUR DAUGHTER
HOPE YOU DON’T SHOW ME THE DOOR
AND IF YOU COULD SPARE A FEW WORDS OF WISDOM
FROM WHAT YOU’VE LEARNED ALL THESE YEARS
YOU KNOW I WOULD LISTEN
THOSE ARE MY TWO QUESTIONS

CHORUS:
AND HE SAID A GOOD NAME IS BETTER THAN RICHES
ESTEEM IS BETTER THAN GOLD
IT’S SOMETHING YOU’LL ALWAYS HAVE TO HOLD ONTO
AND I CAN TELL IF SHE’S IN LOVE WITH YOU
SHE REMEMBERS WHAT HER MOM AND I TAUGHT HER
SO I GUESS THE ANSWER IS “YES”
YOU CAN MARRY MY DAUGHTER

I’D NEVER TELL ANOTHER I LOVED HER
UNTIL I KNEW IT WAS TRUE
AND I “NEVER FELT THIS WAY ABOUT LOVIN’”
THE WAY I FEEL ABOUT YOU
SO WHAT DO YOU THINK ARE THE CHANCES
OF YOU AND ME SHARIN’ MY NAME
AND SHARIN’ FOREVER
ALL I NEED IS AN ANSWER

CHORUS:
AND SHE SAID A GOOD NAME IS BETTER THAN RICHES
ESTEEM IS BETTER THAN GOLD
I’VE PRAYED THE LORD WOULD GIVE YOU TO ME
TO HAVE AND HOLD
I LOVE A MAN WHO LOVES THE LORD ABOVE
LIKE MY MOM AND DADDY TAUGHT ME TO DO
AND YES… I’LL MARRY YOU

IT MIGHT BE TOO SOON TO SAY THIS
BUT, I THOUGHT YOU MIGHT WANT TO KNOW
I SURE AM LOOKIN’ FORWARD TO MEETIN’ YOU
AND WATCHING YOU GROW
I WONDER IF YOU’LL LOOK LIKE ME
AND I WONDER WHAT YOU’LL GROW UP TO BE
AND ONE OF MY PRAYERS
IS THAT YOU REMEMBER…

CHORUS:
THAT A GOOD NAME IS BETTER THAN RICHES
ESTEEM IS BETTER THAN GOLD
IT’S SOMETHING I WANT YOU TO HAVE TO HOLD ONTO
UNTIL THE DAY I’M TELLING A YOUNG MAN
THE WORDS YOUR MAMMA’S DADDY TOLD ME
I LOVE YOU… MY LITTLE GIRL REEVES

21st Century Blues (Technology Blues)

Written By: Giles Canter

I got spam in my mailbox, hey lucky me
All kinds of advice, every stitch of its free
Stay warm with a Snuggie, “stop yellow teeth”
And one pill can make “man” outta me
Now I didn’t know it, haven’t heard from him since
But turns out I’m related to an African Prince
He’ll give me his money. How much I’ll find out
If I’ll send him the number to my bank account

You can have all this technology
I’ll go take a nap in a big ‘ole oak tree
If I knew how text I’d text, “Hey y’all
The fast pace of this life is killin’ us all”

And I ain’t no farmer, but last time I checked
Blackberries were for pickin’ and not internet
You got Facebook and Twitter and chats with your friends
All in the palm of your hand
And there ain’t one single person I know
Who don’t have a laptop and a cellular phone
I just can’t keep up. For all that I know
Blue tooth’s what you get from a big blue snowcone

You can have all this technology
I’ll sleep under the stars as the cricket choir sings
If I knew how to tweet, I’d tweet “Hey y’all
The fast pace of this life is killin’ us all”

Bridge:
With Wikipedia knowledge who needs college
Throw all the textbooks away
Kids Huntin’ and fishin’, that’s just me wishin’
There inside playin’ video games

Hey all you techies, listen to me
I got some advice, every MEG of its free
Turn off the wi-fi, and all the gadgets you’ve got…
Or just listen to me on your little IPOD…

You can have your technology
I’ll lay in a hammock with my guitar and sing
If I had a celphone I’d call and say, “Hey y’all…

…The fast pace of this life is killin’ us all”
