Bio

Gil Lewis has been working as a professional piano, organist and vocals for nearly 30 years. With the release of his new CD he is showing no signs of slowing down. Music has always been an integral part in Lewis life. At the age of 12, he began playing the clarinet and several instruments later at the age of 18, he began his career as a piano player. His style reflects the "old standards" and the works of Cole Porter, Frank Sinatra, Louie Armstrong and many more. Gil Lewis Trio organized in 1970's Member of Federation of Musicians local 595 outstanding work in jazz, commercial, and Rhythm & Blues composition and music. The Gil Lewis Trio has made recent appearances with Maynard Ferguson, Pieces of Dream, Jimmy Scott, Eric Alexander, Charles Fambrough, Marcus Belgrave, Freddie Cole Quartet, Los Hombres Calientes, Omar Sosa Quintet on the same ticket. Although Lewis lives in Williamstown, N.J., he performs throughout the tri-state area of New Jersey, Pennsylvania and Delaware. Gil has worked as a background musician for Little Jimmy Scott, Johnny Hartman, Nancy Wilson, Billy Cobbs, and Mohammed Ali (private party). Gil is a superb jazz musician who has so many abilities it's hard to list them all. First of all, he's a smoking soloist. He drives rhythmically, but also plays the complicated runs that jazz listeners crave. As an accompanist, he not only provides discriminating harmonic structure, but also presents an engendering, complimentary attitude towards his soloist. As if that weren't plenty, he's also a first rate vocalist. Talking to Gil is equally interesting. He's done the kind of upscale professional work that would put any jazz historian on pause. He has far too many gigs in the bank to cover but to add some more Gil has worked with McCoy Tyner, Kenny Barron, and singers Billie Holiday, Sarah Vaughn, and Tony Bennet. The Gil Lewis Trio also have made appearances on the same ticket with The Manhattans, First Choice, Sister Sledge, Jerry Butler, B.B. King, Stephine Mills, The Emotions, and Harold Melvin and The Blue Notes to name a few. Gil has played at Cotton Club,Cape May Jazz Festival, Club Harlem, Maquire Air Force Base, Fort Dix, Sportsman Club, The Pepperiment Lounge, The Three Buddies, The Sand Castle, The Douglas Club, The Penquin Club, Boots and Bonnats to name a few. Most noteable is a 4 year gig from January 2003 to October 2007, May 3, 2007- October 2007 The Gil Lewis Trio played Mackinac Island Grand Hotel Michigan for the Republican and Democratic Dinners for :
