Songwriter/frontman Justin Lucoff did not form Gilly in the traditional way. Instead of forming a super-group of washed up local rock performers in San Francisco, Lucoff focused on building a group of super musicians from the suburbs.
In the Warped Tour era, bands who begin branding merchandise before recording one album are rampant. But Gilly was founded as a kick-arse classic rock quartet that builds from the ground up, with great songs as its calling card. Led by Lucoff and bassist Coco Olivari (known from his work w/ the latin prog-rock band Anima), Gilly has already made its mark as an unpretentious and vibrant rock & roll band with a penchant for thrilling fans with music, not image. "Everything sounds great and that's the important thing," says Lucoff proudly. "Our sound keeps getting better, the band is getting tighter and that's what it's all about."
Watch for announcements soon as the band cuts its teeth on Bay Area gigs and prepares to launch a new round of recording and live shows on the California coast. Viva Gilly!
