"The 10 Best Female Comedians"

Yashere turned to comedy after working as a lift engineer, completed her first tour in 2000, and has toured successfully ever since. In 2002 she was voted best female act at the Black Comedy Awards and nominated best female stand up at the Chortle awards. Her big break came in 2007 when she became one of the last 10 finalists in Last Comic Standing which brought her to a US audience and in 2008 she was the first British comic to appear on the influential black comedy show, Def Comedy Jam. She has since branched out into acting and has recently recorded a comedy special for the US Channel, Showtime. - Observer

Bio

GINA YASHERE broke onto the American comedy scene with her recent appearances on LAST COMIC STANDING (NBC), where she made it to the final 10. What you don’t know is that GINA YASHERE'S sellout live appearances are legendary. Her bombastic delivery, infectious personality and cheeky observations have wowed audiences not just in the UK but also in America, Dubai, Hong Kong, Singapore, Montreal, South Africa and all over Europe.

Gina hails from London via Nigeria and shoots from the hip. Her unique take on being both cultural insider and outsider never fails to raise the roof. Following an early career as a Lift Engineer, YASHERE made her comedy debut at The Edinburgh Festival in 1995. The shows sold out almost immediately and overnight both audiences and critics alike were smitten.

Since those early heady days GINA has continued to take the comedy world by storm and is now one of the most highly sought − after comics in the country, making numerous appearances on TV, radio and the big screen. Her TV appearances have included LAST COMIC STANDING (NBC), DEF COMEDY JAM (HBO), THE MOBO AWARDS (UK-host), THE LENNY HENRY SHOW (UK), and CELEBRITY FAME ACADEMY (UK). Radio shows have ranged from her own BBC RADIO LONDON show to Radio 2's critically acclaimed THE POWDER ROOM. Feature films have included KISS KISS and MR IN BETWEEN. She has appeared on the West−End stage in THE VAGINA MONOLOGUES… And if all that were not enough she has even managed to find the time to write several plays for BBC Radio 4 and sketches for RICHARD BLACKWOOD'S channel 4 series (UK). In fact It's a wonder she found the time to pick–up her 3rd award in a row for BEST FEMALE at the recent BLACK COMEDY AWARDS (UK).
