"Ginger Binge Releases Album"

CHICAGO—After years of hard work and dedication Ginger Binge is ready to digitally release their first album with all original tracks called “Ginger Binge and Friends” on July 29.

The core members of the band are Bob Spoerl, a Wisconsin native, Ben Richmond, a Nebraska transplant, and Chicago suburbs’ own Brian Anderson. The three met and became friends at Northwestern University while getting their master’s degree in journalism. Each brought their lifelong love of music and unique influences to create a genre entirely new, something that Anderson coined “cosmic Americana.”

The album was brought about after a year of writing and recording songs. The three have been involved in recording projects before, but this time turned to the experts at Handwritten Recording, the same team that helped in the recording of Sufjan Stevens’ Come on feel the Illinoise! and Greetings from Michigan, the Great Lakes State.

The band describes their music as a mix of David Bowie, Bob Dylan, the Kinks, the Beatles, Wilco, the Cardinals, Of Montreal, Jenny Lewis and Elvis Costello.

For more information contact Bob Spoerl at 414-617-1768 and visit their website at http://gingerbinge.com/

"Bob the Binge-r"

"GB has a retro sound, kinda Beatles-esque, with quirky and sometimes a little deranged lyrics with skippy melodies. Fun, and often funny." - Gabbi Levy, Colors in Focus

Bio

Ginger Binge is a musical co-op of folks who play folk rock music. At the center of the band is Bob Spoerl. Bob's the only true redhead (ginger), but the other players are in the process of gingerfication.

Bob began playing bass guitar and singing in the band Flashpoint along with schoolmates Ryan Campbell (on drums) and Mike Nickerson (guitar and vocals) in high school. This was in Milwaukee and it was a long, long time ago -- way back in 2001. The band added guitar god Andy 'Fingers' Eichholz in 2004 and played around the Brew City (but not in bars because they weren't old enough) for several years before breaking to pursue degrees. One of the band's most memorable moments was opening for Lifehouse at the June 2006 Waukesha County Fair.

After years in college studying various things -- ministry, urban planning and dentistry, to name a few -- the band members reunited for a studio session in June 2011. The boys found themselves in the same city playing music together for the first time in years. That session helped complete an album Bob had already been working on with several graduate school friends from Northwestern University. You can listen to Ginger Binge & Friends and buy the album online in a lot of places -- iTunes, Amazon and BandCamp.

Ginger Binge is constantly evolving, like everything else in this world. The band is now Bob Spoerl, Chris Bentley and Rachel Gottinger. You may find the band performing live in Chicago and Milwaukee, or wherever a Sonic Bid takes them.
