Bio

Gingerpig was formed by the end of 2008 by Gorefest-guitarist Boudewijn Bonebakker, to justify the purchase of a '67 Hammond organ. Well, that, and because of the strongly felt need to create music without any artistic pressure, predetermined borders or deliberate choices of style. Heck, to do what ever he feels like doing. Within a short period of time, Bonebakker wrote a hefty number of songs, with obvious leanings to the bluesrock and hardrock masters of yesteryear. Yet, at the same time, he clearly finds musical solace in 70's funk, soul, jazz rock and even early symphonic rock.

Musicians were needed. After consulting with well known Stoner kingpin Bidi, Bonebakker asked Drummer Ries Doms to join him. Doms was soon followed by bassist Sytse Roelevink, 'picked up from the street in my hometown' as Bonebakker puts it. Finding someone to play the Hammond with which all of this started proved to be a slightly more difficult job. After some months, Bonebakker discovered pianist Jarno van Es in a smoky jazz club, thought:'Nice', quickly gained his trust and planted him behind the Gingerpig-organ.

Van Es, very much an all round player, was found to be exactly what Bonebakkers songs needed. Those songs were fleshed out during intense rehearsals, which culminated in the band recording some of that material live in Tilburg's Railroad Studios in May '09. The songs show a band which is clearly very 'together' going from long drawn out improvisations to compact pop, even throwing in riffs that wouldn't feel out of place on, indeed, a Gorefest record. Topped off with Bonebakkers surprisingly pleasant voice, their first demo finds these four gentlemen well versed in the Ways of the Ginger Pig.

However, after a short burst of performances drummer Ries Doms decided to leave the band so he could properly focus on his many other projects. The search for musicians wasn't over just yet. Two shows with Jazz Rock drummer Maarten Poirters were well received and proved the search to be over! In the meantime the band closed a record deal with Dutch record label Suburban Records (a.o. Peter Pan Speedrock, Keith Caputo, Hermano, Shaking Godspeed, Kingfisher Sky etc.) . More info will follow shortly .
