Who’s that Girl (Delux)?

Girl Delux is the soundtrack to the story of what it's like to be a modern girl in a complex world. Centered around duo Davis James and Venice Cameron, their songs are sophisticated, sassy, and never oversimplified, with both lyrics and music that are all-sided. Their influences range across genres, combining them into a soulful, fresh and energetic sound with tons of personality. Girl Delux is an amazingly tight band for everybody - all you have to do is listen.

Girl Delux was started in 2005 by Manchester-born Davis James (multi-instrumentalist) and Toronto's Clara Venice (vocals, electric/acoustic violin). When they met, both James and Venice had been playing music for years - James had already toured the world as lead guitar player for several national and international recording artists, and produced his first album for Warner Music in 2001. Venice had been involved in recording projects in L.A., Nashville and Toronto, and developed her stage presence by performing in the Toronto club scene and at selected venues in the U.S. Both James' and Venice's recording work attracted interest from radio and television personalities, and Venice’s projects ended up as the soundtrack for a major French motion picture.

But they wanted something more - something "Delux," perhaps.

Getting to work in James' studio, the duo began writing songs towards an album which they hoped would capture the public's attention with its Delux sound and feeling. Venice crafts meaningful, thought-provoking lyrics and unique vocal sounds that mesh with James' lush textures and driving, symphonic arrangements. The result is fresh and multifaceted, inspired by many genres woven together into a new fabric which still retains the echos of its influences - expansive, experimental verses, airy lyrics ranging from sassy to profound, from witty to spiteful. Their choruses are strong, optimistic and singable, holding open a space for Girl Delux which is yet to be filled in the contemporary pop music world.

Since completing their first 8-song EP in the summer of 2006, Girl Delux has taken advantage of the new opportunities offered by emerging digital media such as Myspace, the blogosphere and podcasting networks. These technologies have allowed Girl Delux the freedom to pursue the sophisticated and unique sound, shape and material that they always wanted to play. Having begun to acquire a strong and consistent virtual fanbase, James and Venice are now ready to return to the stage and break out as Girl Delux. Joined by a talented band of old friends and band mates, Venice and James are thrilled to be on the threshold of a new chapter in both of their lives.
