"Gathering of the Vibes 2012 Review Guide"

Girls On Bikes. This young and talented band from Fairfield, CT are heavily inspired by classic rock, yet manage to put a distinct twist on their music. I was super impressed by the candor and stage presence of their front man and I see big things for this bands future. - Headstash

"Gathering of the Vibes Day 2 Review"

The pouring rain was a blessing in disguise for Girls On Bikes because they were slated to perform at the Tent Stage. People merely attending just to get out of the rain were in for a surprise.

The three-year-old band is as grassroots as it gets, practicing in their lead singer’s (Dylan Levinson) basement. Even though these rockers are barely old enough to buy cigarettes, they perform with tenacity and talent of artists twice their age. Levinson's voice is exceptionally strong and can effortlessly flow between octaves. But it was his stage presence that really impressed me the most. He just has a certain “je ne sais quoi” that sticks with you.

Even though he was breaking the golden rule of wearing flip-flops while rocking out, these guys were extremely endearing and are full of potential. When I asked him if he practices in front of the mirror, he said, "No, but I watch Led Zeppelin documentaries all the time." And you can tell.

Bio

Girls On Bikes started as a band four years ago when Dylan and Connor, brothers, decided to form a band with childhood friends Joe and Connor, and with high school friend Eric. They took a grassroots approach to creating their sound, practicing many days in Dylan and Connor's basement. Over the past few years they have developed their sound into one that is highly influenced by 1970's blues rock, funk rock, and jam band rock. They are heavily influenced by artists such as the Grateful Dead, the Allman Brothers Band, Led Zeppelin, Phish, Eric Clapton, and Jimi Hendrix. They began to play around the Connecticut local circuit, including The Space, the Room, Toquet Hall, the Beanery, and Trackside Teen Center. After a few years, they gained a positive reputation and began booking gigs at venues such as Toad's Place in New Haven, CT, and at the Gathering of the Vibes festival in Bridgeport, CT. Last year, they released their first EP independently, which can be found on their bandcamp website. Girls On Bikes continues to practice in their basement band room, and is always looking for new influences to further their sound. Always looking for an opportunity to play a gig anywhere, Girls On Bikes remains diligent to create a unique live experience that will attract both young and old audiences alike.
