Give

Give is a folk-world band from Montreal, co-founded in 2000 by Caroline St-Louis (voice, piano and flute) and Stephan Ritch (guitar, voice and sound engineer). Their lyrics and vast influences reveal an acute social consciousness. The duo toured across Canada with their first album, entitled Without Expectations. In 2007, Give received financial support from both Young Volunteers and la fondation du Maire de Montreal pour la jeunesse for their second album, Moments. The concept of this album was interesting: each song was recorded in a distinct environment, such as a church, a cottage, a house and the forest, in order to capture a moment in time with that song. Give did not only explore new grounds music-wise: they also recorded francophone compositions, a first for them, despite their francophone roots. Winners of la tournée des boursiers by FMMJ, in collaboration with Loto Quebec, they had the fantastic opportunity to present their new show in cultural centers around Montreal. Their presence, both on-stage and off, reveals a level of experience and sense of themselves that is rare among those so young. The variety of their instruments and musical styles never ceases to astound the audience.
