Gladstone

BandRockAlternative

Winner of 2009 Madison Area Music Awards (Best New Artist & Pop Album of the Year) Gladstone is a unique hybrid of John Mayer, R.E.M & Vertical Horizon. With 15 years of musical collaboration behind them, their album is well crafted and something fans will enjoy time and time again.

Biography

Based out of Madison, WI, Gladstone is a rock band of 5 focused musicians whose paths have parted and intertwined for more than a decade. Gladstone's Alt-Contemp Rock sound has evolved from their early years, when they were named "Photopsia". The early music was firmly rooted in complex rhythms; deeply textured songs born from open experimental songwriting. Today, Gladstone gives a more melodic voice to the chorus with uplifting and radio-friendly rock. Lyrical topics filled with images of nature, struggle, endurance, celebration and home reach out to anyone in the human experience.

The band's influences include Toad the Wet Sprocket, Vertical Horizon, The Eagles, Pink Floyd, James Taylor and John Mayer. Warm, rich, acoustic and electric guitar tones mingle with sweet melodies atop concrete, powerful rhythms. Strong vocal harmonies and keys add depth and polish to the overall sound.

Gladstone's debut indie album "Paper Sky" was released in October of 2008, and has been awarded 2 Madison Area Music Awards; including Best New Artist and Pop Album of the Year. Since then, Madison has been buzzing: radio play on 105.5(WMMM) and 106.3(WWQM), excellent internet reviews, and a growing fan base.

Fireflies

Written By: lyrics by Kindschi

Lavender, and everything is quiet
And the fireflies, like a thousand torches burning on the field
We are still- Just stand here next to me and take it all in
Fleeting beauty- Is this the only thing that’s real?

Can you recall ever feeling this way
I think I’ve been here once before
So open up your soul
You’re running on, they’re running you down

Fly me away
Into the clouds
The moon is our destination, coming round
Heart of a child, souls taking flight
Our dreams running wild on this summer night

Don’t be afraid, it’s really not that high
Just imagine how far you could see
If you were only willing to leave the ground behind
With the stars as our guide, the shining water falls below
And the warm summer breeze, with the trees- They are dancing as we go

Hello? Are you listening to me?
I’ll just save my breath for awhile
And we can look out on the sea
Do you every wonder if we’re keeping time when we sit and smile?
Can it be like the first time, every single time

Perched on the shore to catch the sunlight’s virgin rays
Warmed by the rocks from beneath,
I am watching the breathing of the waves
I feel the salt in my veins, the ocean flows thru blood and bone
And I know my sole purpose is to carry the sea inside me when I go home

Paper Sky

Written By: lyrics by Kindschi

I see a haze, smoke in the valley
Can’t you just smell the breeze, the spectral trees, a paper sky
Hold me against the Sun- shine right thru me
All of the colors of a life gone by

No longer days of sleepy sunshine
Can’t you just sense the yawning- Evening is nigh
I’ll stand against the winter, drift into me
All of these frozen daggers grace my eyes

Ahhh…
So wash the flags away
Stark shadows standing tall
Reborn into the day
We rise into the fall

The river flies, down in the valley
Can’t you just hear it sing
The snow it brings from mountains high
I’ll wade into the flood; just watch it fill me
Once from the snowfields to the oceans wide

No longer days of sleepy sunshine
Can’t you just sense the yawning- Evening is nigh
I’ll stand against the winter, drift into me
All of these frozen daggers glaze my eyes

So wash the flags away…

So wash the flags…

(counter-melody)
How long, how long?
Can we hold this strong?
Everything and every thing we own
Let go

Time to Travel

Written By: lyrics by Kindschi

Time to Travel

In the midst of a mindless day
A dream did come to me
At the farmhouse, times with you my friend
I was laughing at some wise-crack thing you said

I drive, I drive to find your place
But somehow the address must have changed

On and on thru the countryside,
I see a tree standing alone in a field
It grows into the shape it was meant to be
That’s how I want to feel

I drive, I drive to find your place
Somehow the address must have changed

Open up your eyes, this is better than a dream
We’ve been sleeping for so long
And it’s time to travel
You’re just waking

When my eyes are tired, I will resurrect good times
And we’ll be right there, on the front porch,
Shooting fireworks that explode into the sky

With morning’s light we’ll drive away
But roman candles never fade

Bulletproof Umbrella

Written By: lyrics by Kindschi

She cries to me: "Man, don’t you see? The sky is falling!
There’s black in holes in the heavens where the blue sky fell on me
I scurry, scurry, beneath my bulletproof umbrella
Peaking out from underneath I see the black holes
…where the blue sky used to be

I thought I’d live forever
Why can’t you stop the sky from falling down "

Everyday she dies her death- she’s seventeen
Dragged on thru her life by forces that she cannot see
In the reflection stands a stranger who she does not know
Thru her window spies the last piece of the blue sky falling
…to the streets below

I thought I’d live forever
Why can’t you stop the sky from falling down

I thought we’d live forever
Why can’t we stop the sky from falling down

I thought I’d live forever
Why can’t you stop the sky from falling…
Stop the sky from falling down

Imaginary Games

Written By: lyrics by Kindschi

This imaginary game, the one you and I are playing
Who’ll be there to tally up the score
Buried within my mountain- I can only feel the light
Ancient paint and chalklines mark the door

How much do you really need
Do you have to look ahead to see

Expect the best- worst case scenario
Endless winding threads surround me- in stereo
The possibilities are slowly whittled down, and down
Her lofty weight- it holds me to the ground

How much do you really need
Do you have to look ahead to see
The light it strikes my eyes and I begin to wonder why
You should ever feel alone
They’re all so close

How much do you really need
Do you have to look ahead to see
The light it strikes my eyes and I begin to wonder why
We should ever feel alone
They’re all so close

How much do you really need
Do you have to look ahead to see
Well the light it strikes my eyes and I begin to wonder why
You should ever feel alone
I am so close… so close
