"Track Reviews: Glen Martin - This Is All We Know"

“Los Angeles transplant from Michigan’s UP (that’s upper peninsula for those not familiar with the area) Glen Martin recently released his first EP titled Electric Baby. This self-released, 5 song EP exudes Americana with a catchy mix of indie and folk. A standout on the release is the lead off track, “This Is All We Know”, which has a kick back, tap your foot, and sip some whiskey kind of feel.” - Brian Litwin - BLAHBLAHBLAHSCIENCE

"Glen Martin session video, on tour now"

“Once in a while us folks who live in Iron Mountain are lucky enough to catch a touring musician for a night or two, even luckier when it’s Glen. Native to the area, Glen Martin transplanted to the west coast where he’s been cutting his teeth and slingin’ tunes. Glen is the type who, growing up would pick up any instrument laying around and try and figure out how it works, the type who never gives up once they set their mind on something. Truly rare to find someone who has this level of passion for music. Glen played here a few months back during the Pine Mountain Ski Jumps, and while he was in town we were lucky enough to pull him aside and shoot a session. Watch, and check when he’ll be swinging through your town.” -Steven Michael - Mostly Midwest

"Ears Wide Open: Glen Martin"

"Singer-songwriter Glen Martin’s whiskey-on-the-rocks Americana is equal parts boozy lament and woozy grace. Since he relocated to L.A. from Michigan’s Upper Peninsula, he’s collaborated with other bands (including the Quick Hellos) and worked on honing his own songs, which conjure up the geography of both Laurel Canyon and the American South. The gimmick-free production on his second EP, “Electric Baby,” suggests Martin doesn’t have much interest in being too “indie” — reaffirmed by the song “Waltzing With Wolves.” “Tell me where do I get it, do I get it / where do I get street credit?” he sings. In some locales, you get cred by convincingly embodying the demon whiskey in one couplet. Such as “I can’t have fun / when I just have one,” from his song “Loretta.” Yeah, we’ll have another too." -Kevin Bronson - Buzzbands LA

Bio

Glen Martin wants to sing a few songs for you. Wont you let him? Hailing originally from the scenic Upper Peninsula of Michigan, Glen is a Los Angeles-based multi-instrumentalist, singer-songwriter, and recording artist of the highest caliber. Glen digs deep for his music, drawing from personal experience to offer us lyrics that are both raw and relatable.
Master of science and space, lone wolf, puppet aficionado Glen Martin plays many roles. But none are executed with as much ease and grace as his music. Its no wonder; Glen has been collecting and studying records for his entire adult life, analyzing every song, every nuance. For his own music, he draws upon a well of disparate influences, from Neil Young, Bob Dylan and George Jones to Paul Simon, Loudon Wainwright III, M. Ward and Jeff Mangum.
Often nostalgic but never derivative, Glen Martins sun-kissed Americana radiates originality and passion in every note. His songs are hopeful, silly, sarcastic, catchy and bittersweet.
His latest 5-song EP, Electric Baby, offers listeners a glimpse into the mind and heart of this up-and-coming All American Artist. Its a beautiful, whisky-soaked ride thats over all too soon. The EP is on sale now, and you can catch Glen live near you. He recently completed his first national tour.
Do yourself a favor: hitch a ride with this urban cowboy as he rides his steel horse on a one-way trip through time, back to the golden age of Pop Music, when melodies mattered and mustaches were required by law. You'll be glad you did.
