"Glen Strickey’s ECMA-nominated debut CD ‘Roots For Rudy’ is a must-have for jazz fans"

Glen Strickey is a jazz sax player living in Prince Edward Island but from Cape Breton. If you’re in the business you will certainly know the name. If not, it will help if I tell you that he’s Emilio Pace’s grandson and the nephew of Rudy Pace, two exemplary names of the local music scene over the past 60 or more years.

A skillful player and composer, Glen has surrounded himself with an equally talented group of musicians for the recording of his first CD, “Roots For Rudy,” which is nominated for a 2011 ECMA Award. One special guest is Doris Mason who provides the vocals for her self-composed “Rudy’s Den,” a tribute to the great man himself. Also included is a snippet of music from Emilio and a full-band presentation of one of his tunes (“Tarantella Emillio”).

While “Roots For Rudy” jumps up the tempo from time to time, the CD is mostly a mellow, laid-back presentation, a relaxing groove that conjures up visions of a glass of wine at a small, smoky club. This is a sweet recording, serious but with all involved having a great time. If jazz is your thing, this is a CD that you will enjoy. - Cape Breton Post

"Hot Jazz on a Cool Night"

"the quartet just wowed us time and time again with its tightness, ingenuity and flare in improvisation. In a nutshell, they are all ninjas, and to watch them in improv action never fails to be a tremendous and dazzling display." - The Gaurdian Newspaper

Growing up on Cape Breton Island on the east coast of Canada, Glen was heavily influenced at a young age by weekly Jazz sessions, which took place at his Uncle Rudy Pace’s home. It was there that he was introduced to Jazz music and had the opportunity to both hear and jam with some of the living legends of Jazz . This experience motivated Glen to study music at St. Francis Xavier University, where he received a Bachelor of Music in Jazz Studies. In the years that followed, Glen continued to play and perform with various groups at festivals, bars, and concert halls all over the world, including a recent set of gigs in Rome.

Now living in Prince Edward Island, Canada, Glen is the host of an extremely successful winter Jazz concert series and the founder of a music scholarship for budding Jazz musicians.
