"TopLeft Recordings Presents M.ade I.n C.anada Volume 3"

With a title like Made In Canada, it would be nice to see more representation from other areas of Canada, but M.I.C.3 is very Ontario-centric, with a few exceptions, of course. That said, it’s still a pretty solid line-up. Sure, like any compilation, a few tracks could have been dropped but those choices are probably pretty subjective. If you want to be picky, or would just like access to specific tracks, an unmixed version is available, but Anonymous Twist’s unobtrusive mix pulls it together in more ways than just making for a seamless listen. A number of the songs on this mixtape have a positive message – like GENERAL’s “Runaway Slave,” J-Bru’s “You Ain’t Black Enough,” Unknown Mizery’s “Then Till Now,” and Sweats and Kaotny’s “Loves Wounds – and most of the rest are typical mixtape braggadocio, not that there’s anything wrong with that; 9thUno rips it over a few beat changes on “Dilla Dub,” for instance. Also noteworthy, King Jus delivers his microphone master lyrics on a chill Fresh Kils beat for “The Embassada” while Alex Dimez closes the album with two versions of “All Out,” the original over a smooth beat from Jaydapro but the second is a more impressive old school funk remix from Fresh Kils. The M.I.C. mixtapes are a great idea, and volume 3 is well executed, but hopefully the next volume will feature a wider selection of Canadian talent. [Thomas Quinlan] - Urbnet
