Bio

Gnome Village is located Lansing MI, founded by John Walker, Matt Mikula, and Colin Moorhouse. As high school friends in Hartland, MI the trio were part of Mr. Colin's Opus and The Smiling Politelies, before going separate ways to discover the true meaning of life. Through many journeys, scrutiny, and near death experiments the individuals dabbled with groups such as The Wizards of Hope, Walker and the Runners, and Fruit Basket and the Amigos before meeting their ends.

After life seemed meaningless and all hope to be false, the three met on a riverside in Parshallville, next to an old cider mill with guitars in hand. The rain crashed down as with the intention to harm, winds howled through wavering trees, and lightening tore through the sky as the sounds of dissonant chordal structures made their way into harmonic ecstasy. It was that moment Gnome Village was created.

Although influences may include: The Band of Gypsies, Woody Guthrie, Pink Floyd, Amon Düül II, Om, Led Zeppelin, Black Sabbath, Alice in Chains, Dick Dale, NWA, Bob Marley, CSNY, Fleet Foxes, The Four Tops, The Temptations, Kraftwerk, David Bowie, Ledbelly, Neu!, The Misfits, Talking Heads, Ravi Shankar and ect... Gnome Village will swear by the band Complete (closely followed by Jan Terry) being their sole influence towards a life dedicated to the sound of music.

Understanding Gnome Village's sound would be best described in the words of Curtis from Complete: "We play what we play". There is no knowing what to expect when experiencing Gnome Village. With two albums of original music recorded during their first year together, selections of great artist's work, and improvisational jams, never will you hear the a song performed the same twice. Genres offered to the band have included: Psy-Fi Folk, Garage Motown, and Krautrock (which is sometimes substituted with Yankrock since the band is American). The band performs both acoustically and electrical with sets ranging from a half hour up to four hours, always with the hope to play for 24 hours. Psychedelic lighting, imagery, fog, live artists and an array of twenty drummers/percussionists to choose from feed life of the performance.

"It's like Apollo meshed the souls of Jerry Garcia and Jim Morrison, brought them back to life inside of a brownie and I just ate that brownie man!" -Some crazy dude at one of our shows.
