BULLET aka GENIUS JENKINS

CREATING ART THAT REACTS

Hip-Hop today oozes a dense population of rappers who have followed the blueprint laid down by the genres founding fathers. Very few attempt to break the mould for fear of failure. But diligently and creatively mastering his craft in Chicago is a performer bringing his own twist to the world of beats and rhymes. Having branded himself from the get go as an outer space hero; someone who ‘wants humans coming from school and work to just kick back and enjoy what he brings,’ this Martian is orbiting the world preparing to make impact.

With verses and wordplay void of profanity, Bullet AKA Genius Jenkins has, while taking part in his on going mission, paid close attention to the lack of substance in music today. “I want people to get from my music that I am creating pieces of art that exude longevity as opposed to a string of meaningless words that have no lasting appeal,” Bullet explains. And after releasing his debut project, Back to the Lyrics, it was apparent that the earthlings he tries so hard to satiate were impressed with his music.
Garnering press from some of the premier magazines and websites Back to the Lyrics proved that Bullet was travelling in the right direction. The Source hailed the album as ‘a solid entrée from an artist with tremendous potential’ and the project and its bonus track Earth Girls encouraged further interviews and music placements on sites such as HipHopDX.com, 2DopeBoyz, NahRight, AllHipHop.com and DJBooth.Net where Bullet is a firm favourite. But his enthusiasm to relay the messages he does in his music is enforced when Bullet stands centre stage.
With an abundance of energy, this ASCAP Playback Artist of the Week dominates any crowd in any venue. Playing throughout his home state and at shows in Nebraska, Michigan and Ohio, Bullet never fails to deliver; whether it is to a sold out club in Chicago or to a kid based charity event such as Dance Marathon at Nebraska’s University of Lincoln. “Just to see people dancing to my records is amazing to me, I love it and because of that I give them their moneys worth every time.” His lyrical seduction has indeed impressed not only his fans, but also the industry, which are all eyes and ears on what is next.

As a business student at Chicago’s Columbia College, Bullet has an embedded understanding of pleasing consumers as well as maintaining his own personal integrity. “I care about music, I care about what I am saying and I put myself in the position of the consumer and ask myself ‘Would I buy this record?’” Thus enhancing the quality of tracks he records. Chicago unity encouraged a Cool Kids collaboration while his in-house production team of Slot-A and Vanysh have continuously provided Bullet with an ever-changing backdrop to record to.

Linking with producers Christian Rich saw the trio’s creativity appear on MTVs The Hills and it is through relationships such as this that Bullet’s next project The Lost Jabawokee will feature production and appearances from the brightest members of Hip-Hop’s newest generation. ‘My impending projects are produced by my own team and Cory Bold (Keri Hilson and Marques Houston) ad these guys make non-sample music that may be alternative but it is still able to touch the mainstream audience.”
As he orbits the earth feeding music lovers from one end of the globe to the other, these portions are only microscopic compared to what Bullet has lined up for 2009. It is this year that will see this self proclaimed Martian descend from his own stratosphere to ascend in the world of music bringing a new unique dimension.
