On February 28, 2013, Kevin Diaz (Guitar, Vocals) and Jared Harvey (Guitar, Vocals) began writing a set of songs to reflect the current state of affairs in the world through their eyes. Instead of topics like love, drugs, sex, and fun, which reign over the radio and the overall pop music industry, they put their focus on different and somewhat darker subjects such as society's moral decay, the youth's (now accepted and glamorized) promiscuous nature, the culmination of personal philosophies, accounts of spiritual experiences, etc.... Following an 8-month writing binge and upon the reflection of the themes now being manifested as songs, Kevin came up with the name "god is dead" as an overall summary (a thesis) for the lyrics and for the aggressive sound they had found within an indie range. Though it may seem like a long road ahead for a band with the name "godisdead!" given the religious intolerance to freedom of speech that still rules in spite of their preaching empathy, their mission of raising awareness through impact and reflection gives the name justification strong enough to withstand any negative criticism rooted from ignorance and to carry on their final goal.
