G.O.L.D.
From the Lower East Side of New York City, rooted in the burdgeoning Williamsburgh, Brooklyn scene, comes a band of hipsters for whom four letters spell out all of their musical aspirations. They are known simply as G.O.L.D. Rave turn outs for the band at recent performances at The Delancey, Rothco, and Pianos, three of New York's hippest spots, confirm the band as a group of rising stars on the national scene.
G.O.L.D. has been described as modern pop with a raw street rock credibility. Space age keyboards give a nice swirly flavor to a sound that is punctuated by punch drunk rock guitar riffs. The songs are flavorful pieces of lyricism, with a British sense of whimsy. Legendary PR Man for Led Zeppelin, B.P. Fallon, is one of several key supporters on the rapidly re-emerging New York scene. "(They) blew us away at a recent Death Disco party...The excitement of the night reminded me of the Libertines when I first saw them in London."
G.O.L.D. started out as many bands do, with a rotating revolving door membersip, yet quickly settled into their current line-up. "We started out with about five guitar players, and two drummers, and we didn't have a bass player for the first five gigs," states a very matter of fact Scott L., the groups lead singer. "A lot of bands burn really hard in the beginning, until you see what we call the 'flake factor' setting in....it didn't take us that long to figure out who was serious."
No one who sees G.O.L.D. perform doubt their serious intentions, and yet this is a group that refuses to take itself or the music business too seriously. Guitarist McAlan explains, "we know tons of these A&R cats, that hang around the scene just to drink free drinks off the bands...of course, some of them know good music, and you hope you'll run into someone who really gets it...let's face it...indy music came out of bands refusing to wait around for guys in suits and ties to decide whats going to be cool."
As independant artists, G.O.L.D. have not turned their back on the music industry completely. While plans are foot to release their album independantly, via internet distribution, with a substantial budget for marketing being provided by private investors (who will issue the bands first release in a limted run of gold-leaf packaging), the band is also being shopped to a limited selection of major and strong independant labels. Already sitting on a veritable trove of recorded hit material, G.O.L.D. have also smartly fixed their sites on the movie soundtrack market. Currently, three of their recent recordings are being considered for placement in a film by Oscar nominated director Peter Spire.
G.O.L.D. consists of twin lead guitarists, Eric Presti, and McAlan, bassist Craig keil, singer/keyboardist Scott L., bassist/vocalist Craig Kiel, and drummer Ray Pilagy. All songs and music are written by G.O.L.D.
