"Review for Barclay Martin"

"...good musianship and songwriting..."

Timothy Finn--1/6/05 - The Kansas City Star

"Reviews for Barclay Martin"

“If James Taylor had been born into the Krauss Family, his music might sound something like what Barclay Martin produces…his forthcoming album, “Promise on a String”…has the immediacy of a guitar-shop hootenanny, with Martin’s acoustic six-string ceding plenty of space for violin, double bass and percussion. But the Kansas Citian’s voice, a dry, unaffected tenor that conveys both youthful whimsy and grown-up ardor—like James Taylor without the heroin—is the main attraction.”

Scott Wilson -- Dec. 9-15, 2004 - The Pitch Weekly

"Reviews for Barclay Martin"

"Kansas City native Barclay Martin's new release "Promise on a String" is a refreshing blend of acoustic tunes. Martin's clear voice, sweet & strong reminds us of songwriting from days gone by... Barclay Martin is certainly our newest rising star."

Rebecca Roche-- Kansas City Community Radio-KKFI,90.1FM, 1/12/05

"Review for Zachary Ross"

San Francisco's next generation soul maestro channels the spirits of old-school R&B virtuosos like Al Green, Curtis Mayfield and Marvin Gaye...his seductive grooves have the ability to temporarily transform ordinary men into smooth talking Don Juan's.

Modern-Vintage Soul with tinges of everything from Stevie Wonder to Norah Jones to Sting. This is a fresh, neo soul zing informed by the tradition but reaching towards the future. - CD Baby

Barclay Martin’s music is a freight-car journey through the musical heritage of the United States. At its core, it begins with the music stemming from the folk revival of the 60s. The raw and honest clarity indicative of that era remains a thread in all of his writing. As a part of this journey, he has been a part of various bands--most notably Potato Moon, a roots/swing band from western Michigan, which he helped found in 2001.

Since launching his solo career in 2003, Martin has spent the majority of his time on the road, both traveling internationally as well as a 9 month solo tour of the US in 2005. His songwriting reflects the diversity of his experience. Through Martin’s songs, one hears a reverence for the storied pasts of singers and songs which have helped to forge his style.

In partnering with virtuoso soul singer/songwriter Zachary Ross for a spring ’06 acoustic tour, the pair collectively span decades of America’s rich musical tradition with their own original songs.

Zachary Ross' sound is a complex flavor, a robust and halting vintage that deepens with every experience. It's like the warm soulful sound of Sunday morning AM Radio in 1965, plugged in to a futuristic Hi-Fi and landing directly in your living room.

In Spring '06 Zachary will be releasing "Living Room Getaway" an intimate acoustic EP featuring a few special guests but leaving most of the work to Zachary's soulful acoustic guitar and smoke & honey voice.

With radio successes from his previous release, "For the Love I'm Forgetting", Zachary's west coast tour brought a host of a sold out shows and included performances with Chaka Khan, Blues Traveler, Aimee Mann, and Sugar Ray among others. Zachary has also been joined on stage by members of Tower of Power, Ray Charles’ band and the amazing Grammy-winning Tony Lindsay, lead vocalist with Santana.

HISTORY & BACKGROUND:
Born and raised in Kansas City, Zachary developed his craft sitting in with older, more experienced players in seedy blues clubs, where he was invariably the youngest guy on stage. “Seeing the passion and soul that poured from those players, watching them connect with an audience in such an honest way was a huge motivation,” recalls Zachary. That listener connection is what hooked him for good, fueling his love of soul and gospel music and inspiring his almost folk approach to lyricism. His pure and sincere words string together an imagery filled recollection of his life. But as Zachary says, “these are scenes that we’ve all been through and my hope is that people get something of their own from the tunes. My job is to take something true, make it beautiful with words, and accessible with groove.” More information on Zachary, including tour dates, full press kit, images, and information about the record release can be found at www.zacharyross.net.
