"Golden Ages (Band of the Day)"

Tell the synthesiser to take a hike and those fancy pedals to hush down; what makes Golden Ages 'Be Cool' are the pounding drums. Junk yard heavy, they tear through the centre of this glitchy one man electronica like no fiddly sample can. Taking as much from the Tropicália influenced Tanlines or the gothic tinged warblings of Tearist as the Memory Tapes series, the Philly man has piled a treasure trove of sounds into just a couple of tracks.

Set like a jewel into an increasingly familiar glitz and shine of tearaway loops and found sounds, they're a bold step back to the time when big acoustics mattered but still keep it very 2010. - Neu Magazine

"Everything Will Be Alright"

Philadelphia's Golden Ages is another one of these bedroom producers whose actual identity is shrouded in mystery. Yet although we're not sure what his mom calls him, we do know that he's coaxing his undoubtedly lo-fi equipment into producing some of that obnoxiously named yet undeniably pleasant chillwave (no, we don't like the name either) à la Memory Tapes, Washed Out, Toro Y Moi, and the rest of the glo-fi gang. Comparisons and internet buzz words aside, "Everything Will Be All Right" is a soothing slice of spacey electronic pop powered by swirling synths, blown-out low-end, and Mr. Ages' ghostly vocals. His debut album, Tradition, comes out this spring. - XLR8R

"Creeper Gloss"

Another welcome addition to the dreamgaze school of hazy electro from Philidelphia this time with Golden Ages and some super bright and spritzey synths and overdriven electric appreggios seen through purple Photoshop shades, you know that slick cosmic/starry feel that crosses over into their art and clean feelings, approached particularly linearly here with focus on making POSITIVE JAMMERS. - Rose Quartz

"Golden Ages: Be Cool/Everything Will Be Alright"

Falling somewhere impossibly blissful between the experimental side of Animal Collective and the accessible side of Fuck Buttons is Philadelphia's Golden Ages. An LP 'Tradition' is released in the spring but for now here are the singles 'Be Cool' and 'Everything Will Be Alright' to get excited about. Very excited. - Proper Songs

"Golden Ages - Right Season"

Back in November I posted about Philly’s very promising act Golden Ages and their stunning track “Everything Will Be Alright.” Recently I discovered some songs off their upcoming debut album Tradition on the site of their music collective/label Deerhaus. From both songs “Right Season” and “Be Cool,” you can tell this album is going to be a brilliant composition of sounds that swarm around your brain. This is the type of band I’d bring along on a deep space mission while soaring through nebulas and dodging asteroids. But in the mean time I’ll just shut my eyes and pretend. Be on the look out for Tradition coming out soon! Maybe a tour? - Ears of the Beholder

"Everything Will Be Alright. Be Cool."

Philadelphia-based Golden Ages seems to have the making for success. His ethereal, experimental soundscapes evoke references to the icons of his genre – Deerhunter, Panda Bear and Animal Collective. Both “Be Cool” and “Everything Will Be Alright” are two singles coming from his full length called Tradition, releasing this Spring. Rarely do I like to plagiarize a musician’s artist statement or press release, but this one was too good not to.

“Everything Will Be Alright” is about those tough times in life when you feel like you have no control over anything but you have to realize that things will work out, and even if they don’t, things will look up in time. “Be Cool” is about taking it easy, not being frustrated or impatient, and just enjoying life instead of worrying about the little things. The record’s describes that phase in life where you find yourself maturing both mentally and emotionally. “It’s about the transition from the aimlessness of youth into the difficult task of determining your own place in the world. The way growing up changes your relationships with those who are close to you, for better or for worse, and the need to leave in search of something better.” - the OCMD

"Trance Like Repetitive Musical Gestures"

Golden Ages is a Philadelphia synth-sound machine. Moving gracefully along with shimmering vocals while traversing well worn paths, Golden Ages finds sonic comfort. This band makes music that can feel like how the natural environment does after a good rain fall. It blossoms and grows and thus, generously gives.

“Everything Will Be Alright” is the most accurate song title for a song that I’ve heard in a long time. - Microphone Memory Emotion

Bio

Golden Ages began in 2009 as an expression of the space between youth and adulthood. From his Philadelphia bedroom, Golden Ages crafts fuzzy pop tracks out of sound samples, ethereal vocals, powerful percussion, glittery synths, and lush atmosphere. The sound has garnered a variety of comparisons, ranging from Animal Collective & Panda Bear to Fuck Buttons to Atlas Sound & Deerhunter to M83 to The Big Pink to the rising chillwave/glo-fi scene including Memory Tapes, Washed Out, and Toro Y Moi. Named as their Band of the Day, Neu Magazine appropriately described Golden Ages as: "Set like a jewel into an increasingly familiar glitz and shine of tearaway loops and found sounds, they're a bold step back to the time when big acoustics mattered but still keep it very 2010."
