"Introducing Golden Fable"

Tim & Sam’s Tim & the Sam Band with Tim & Sam the Manchester/North Wales instrumental harmonious artet have been rather quiet of late.

Until announcing a new project just yesterday. Out of the quiet a new project is announced, found in "Golden Fable".

For the first six months of 2011, Tim and Becca of Tim & Sam’s Tim & the Sam Band with Tim & Sam locked themselves away in Tim's home studio in North Wales and started writing. Six months later a dozen songs have been whittled down to a new LP which will be available from early next year.

We are hugely proud of the new music. For us, it’s a coming of age. It still features some of our trademark sounds, such as multi-layered guitars, but it’s got lots more singing and we’ve invested in some new equipment that’s enabled us to create a more diverse sound. - Circuit Sweet

"Uncovered: Golden Fable"

Today’s Uncovered act is a new project called Golden Fable featuring Tim & Becca from previous Monkeysuit guests, Tim & Sam’s Tim & The Sam Band with Tim & Sam .

For the first six months of 2011, Tim and Becca locked themselves away in Tim’s home studio in North Wales and started writing. Six months later a dozen songs have been whittled down to a new LP which will be available from early next year.

It still features some of Tim & Sam’s trademark sounds, such as multi-layered guitars and loop station wizardry, but it’s got lots more vocals and they’ve invested in the production which has enabled them to create an exciting and diverse new sound.

Their first single, The Chill Pt. 2 is set for release on November 7th but you can download it now for free below and a physical limited edition run of gold leaf embossed, handmade CD’s will also be made available. - Monkeysuit

"Golden Fable"

Remember the band-with-the-longest-name-ever-that-actually-makes-really-fantastic-music? Well, I do. That would be Tim and Sam’s Tim and the Sam Band with Tim and Sam. I wrote up a post about one of their more angelic songs, “Choices,” a while back, and have been eagerly awaiting more from them since Life Stream.

It just so has it that Tim McIver and Rebecca Palin, two of the main Tim & Sam members, started a new project called Golden Fable, with a fairly similar sound to Tim & Sam. But this project showcases Rebecca’s vocals more prominently and has a much darker side, especially on “The Chill Pt. 2,” the duo’s debut single. The limited edition single is set to be released on November 7, but you can pick up the Double A-side single for free on Bandcamp . Both songs have plenty of color. - Knox Road

"Golden Fable Chill Out"

Tim & Becca from Tim & Sam's Tim & The Sam Band are also the fantastical Golden Fable. A much easier name to remember Golden Fable are anything but a tall tale.

This dark, piano led single will haunt your dreams and leave you in a cold sweat. With Becca's otherworldly voice leading the way, you'll find yourself crossing over into the great unknown and not wanting to come back.

Lets just put it this way, if "The Chill pt 2" is the light at the end of the tunnel...we might as well all just head toward it. Available as a digital download or a hand crafted work of art, this record is worth every penny. - Pop Stereo

"SURFACING: GOLDEN FABLE"

Remember that really annoying band (name) Tim & Sam's Tim & The Sam Band With Tim & Sam? Well, a couple of the main members of that band are back with a new project, the more palatable Golden Fable . The sound is similar to the former's experimental folk-pop, although the Golden Fable duo note that this new project is more vocally-led. Keep reading for details of how to get hold of their debut single for free.

Tim McIver and Becca Palin are the twosome behind Golden Fable and they've been prepping their debut album, due for release early next year. Their debut single 'The Chill Pt.2' comes out on limited edition CD in November but for the time being, they're giving the two tracks away for free as well.

There's an intriguing contrast on the two sides of the single - the mysticism of the haunting vocals on the 'The Chill Pt.2' is markedly different from the hope-filled 'The Golden Hour'. I prefer the latter's more uplifting sound myself but we'll have to wait to see which direction the album will head. This could be the start of something magical. - Faded Glamour

"Song of the Day"

Couples in bands rarely end well. Just look at John and Yoko. Or Johnny and Jenny. Actually, they’re the only two I can think of at the minute, but they’re both awful.

Golden Fable is built on the historically shaky foundation of the romantic entanglement but, as far as we know, there is no risk of them splitting up either The Beatles or Rilo Kiley. Rather the duo, who were previously responsible for the ridiculously monikered Tim & Sam’s Tim & the Sam Band, reside in Manchester and make music that sounds something like 19th century English folk backed up with fluttering, Four Tet-y percussion, or a chorister fronting an even-more-dour Conquering Animal Sound.

‘The Chill Pt 2' is the a-side to the duo’s forthcoming debut single, out 7 October but available digitally now . - The Line of Best Fit

"GOLDEN FABLE "The Chill Pt.2""

Golden Fable is a side-project of Tim McIver and Rebecca Palin of pastoral indie-folk purveyors Tim and Sam’s Tim and the Sam Band with Tim and Sam . A “new challenge” rather than the end of the old band it seems. With members of the band scattered across the UK it proved difficult to make progress on new Tim and Sam material; however as a duo McIver and Palin managed to write, record and produce a Golden Fable album in under six months.

This double A-sided single is the first published fruits of their work. ‘The Chill Pt. 2’ starts with softly scuffed programmed beats, sombre echoing keyboards and eerie, haunting vocals from Ms Palin. Summer is definitely mentioned but this feels initially like something more glacially Scandinavian than the warm bucolic sounds of Tim and Sam album “Lifestream” – more Fever Ray rather forests-and-flora-and-fauna nature hymns. ‘The Golden Hour’ is closer in feel to those earlier instrumental idylls with its rich textures and uplifting orchestration: opening with twittering birds and repetitive plucked acoustic guitar before adding in densely layered synths, gently tinkling glockenspiel and finally some wordless female vocals. If ‘The Chill Pt. 2’ is a little, ahem, cooler, then ‘The Golden Hour’ is imbued with the rosy warmth of a summer’s sunrise.

A charismatic and intriguing pairing of songs that point as much away as towards their alma mater. Tim and ‘Becca’s new found band may have shortened the name but there’s no short-changing of quality: rich, multilayered folk-pop goodness whether hot or cold. ‘The Chill Pt.2’ is available as a free download or to order as a limited hand-packaged CD (out 7 November). The full Golden Fable album will follow in 2012. - Folly of Youth

"Music: The Golden Fable. The Chill Pt 2"

A SIDE project can be a hit and miss affair of vanity or unloved off cuts unfit for proper release. Happily, a new excursion from the Tim and Sam Band – Golden Fable – is neither.
Sonically, the difference is as immediately obvious as the new name is less of a mouthful.
The elements that remain are easy to pick out: Welcome territory of layered guitar and lush atmosphere.
The Chill Pt. 2, a first release, is otherwise the path of Autechre-via-Radiohead. It is a well-travelled road yet one Golden Fable travel masterfully – natural sound distancing them from their origin.

Darker ground than those accustomed to the Tim and Sam Band will be used to, it is immediately familiar but altogether remote. A harsh ice shelf that, close up, is sugar coated and readily assailable. Rather than being hard to penetrate, glitchy percussion lies beneath an organic air which lends welcome warmth.
That is more true of second track The Golden Hour which rattles along prettily and purposefully. But, it is its predecessor that is the more rewarding listen. With the majority of vocals handed over to Becca Palin, a hint of Elizabeth Fraser surfaces. Though the results steer wisely clear of swooping and operatic.
Early signs but, you’d hope, an open door to more beauty. - The Daily Post

Bio

Golden Fable release their debut album, ‘Star Map’ on 10th September through their own Full Of Joy Records.

Golden Fable are Tim McIver and Rebecca Palin. He is the multi-instrumentalist and computer programmer who provides the beats and the song structures, she is the captivating voice and, not to be outdone, also a multi-instrumentalist. Between them they have created an album that celebrates the natural world outside their front door, the legends of the North Wales mountains that frame their cottage, the history of song that flows through Clwyd and Wales as a whole yet sounds modern and innovative in its use of rhythm programming and sampling.

Localism is central to Golden Fable. Alongside the creative impulses delivered through the stunning landscapes that surround them, ‘Star Map’ was made possible with the help of a cabal of local artists and artisans. There are the instruments rescued by a local collector who brings damaged goods back to life and seems to specialise in finding the less obvious pieces that are played on the album, whether banjo or bouzouki, the artwork designed by local artist Kathryn Lloyd that references the natural world around the band and the additional local musicians brought in to play strings on single ‘Sugarloaf’ and cult favourite ‘Always Golden’.

Golden Fable is more than simply a band or record. Running throughout everything that Tim and Rebecca do is a joined up theory that encompasses the music and the presentation. Live the duo reference the natural world through adornments to their stage costumes including bird feathers and leaves. Such adornments are both decorative and symbolic, referencing the fables, local myths and legends that inspire and inform their lyrics. In a world in which so many bands and artists feel confined by their art, Rebecca and Tim are striving to make music and meaning combined whilst not losing the sense of spectacle that runs through the greatest pop music. As with everything Golden Fable, the visual side of their live presentation involves more local talent in the costuming and the concepts behind it.

Prior to the album, Golden Fable released a single, ‘Sugarloaf’ on August 13th.
