"French Fries - "Smoke Wine" (GoldFFinch Remix) + Mix"

Our favorite Parisian French Fries is now on his second EP on San Francisco imprint Dirtybird. The four track release, entitled Space Alarm, features two original tracks by French Fries along with two excellent remixes from Belgian duo goldFFinch and label veteran Justin Martin. The release is another solid contribution to the Dirtybird catalog, complete with the trademark quirkiness that made the label popular from the start. While the originals and Justin Martin remix will certainly hold their own on the dance floor, the remix by goldFFinch stands out as a glowing interpretation of "Smoke Wine".

Noticeably less aggressive than the original, the goldFFinch remix is a bouncy, toned down take on "Smoke Wine". The track carries characteristics typical of goldFFinch production, but offers a much more melodic backdrop, giving it a certain quality that makes it enjoyable in a club setting and in a mix. Speaking of mixes, I was able to reach out to the duo and they were kind enough to lend EARMILK an exclusive mix that was featured as the guest mix for Numbers on Rinse FM. It's filled to the brim with unreleased dubs, so follow the link below to find the tracklist in the Soundcloud page.

Smoke Alarm will be available exclusively from Beatport on 31 October 2012 and from all other retailers on 13 November 2012. Sign up for the subscription service for dirtybird and get the release right now from DRIP.FM. - Earmilk

"GoldFFinch - Model [EP]"

GoldFFinch is quickly teaching us that they can do no wrong. Hailing from Beligum, the duo has already racked up a solid string of releases on labels like Numbers and Saigon. Even before any official release was announced, they were receiving consistent airplay and major hype from Loefah’s Rinse.fm show. Mary Anne Hobbs caught on as well and helped champion their cause with a GoldFFinch guest mix on her XFM show.

Their newest EP on Amsterdam imprint Audio Culture is a characteristically dope venture into a dark and dank corner of house music. Despite this, their sound remains infinitely crisp and clean with earth-pounding bass and on point percussion. They have an uncanny affinity - almost a science - for cutting and weaving vocals into their tunes. Combined with their seemingly neverending supply of head-lolling grooves, they show no signs of slowing down anytime soon. Cheekily tagged as "House?" on Soundcloud, this release takes subtle cues from acid house, garage, and GoldFFinch's trademark booty-jacking sensibilities. The titular "Model" is a mean stepper with a dangerously catchy sample that drops your ears into a spin cycle. "Belle" is a surprising but very welcome change of pace for the duo. Its chilled chords and forlorn vocals make it a beautiful closer following the full-blown percolating of "Let Me See."

Watch the video for “Model” and be treated to some sultry catwalk visuals underneath neon-saturated and crosshatched Predator vision filters. All the more proof that you should stay on the hunt for this one. Look out for the release on June 4th. - Earmilk

Bio

A powerful and unique musical voice from Brussels, Belgium, goldFFinch have launched themselves swiftly to the forefront of their chosen electronic music style with a series of unmissable dancefloor weapons on labels like Jackmasters 'Numbers', 'Saigon', 'Airflex Labs' and 'Audio Culture'.

A duo from Brussells, Belgium, the first ever goldFFinch recordings gained immediate support from scene luminaries like Boddika, Loefah, Jackmaster, and most notably Mary Anne Hobbs who invited them to provide and exclusive mix for her world renowned innovative underground electronic radio show on XFM and called them "one of my favorite musical producer collectives of 2011".

Yoann and Gilles, the duo behind goldFFinch, have let themselves be inspired by current movements in the electronic music and have worked hard to redefine it in their own unique way. One of their trademarks is stuttering vocal samples worked indecipherably into their own funky rhythm and intertwined within the groove of their tracks, a skill built from their formative years listening to Hip Hop. With this vocal technique as a distinct signature laid on their tracks, the core of their music brings together the best of the German Electronic sound, the funkiest of the first Detroit Techno wave and the cutting edge music production of the 22nd century together in one funk fueled musical style.

With the support of their initial recordings from names like Loefah, Boddika, Jackmaster, 2562, Midland Sound and Mary Anne Hobbs, and their subsequent releases on high profile labels like Numbers and Saigon, goldFFinch quickly gained popularity and credibility and began a wider audience. Reviews for all their releases have been incredibly positive across the board, immediately propelling them into the upper echelon of producers using the House and Techno templates to create a new sound that marries the best of these genres together into a genuinely new sound. When performing, they combine Detroit Techno, Chicago Classics, and recent mixtures of Techno, Bass Music and house.

Barely into their second year of existence as a musical entity, what goldFFinch have achieved in this short time is enviable to say the least. 2012 looks to be an exciting year for this mysterious duo who have focused on letting their incredible music do the talking. One thing is for sure, DJ's who need a sure fire dancefloor pleaser will always be safe turning to any goldFFinch tune and it is inevitable their unique live performance approach will deliver the same certainty to any party.
