BandAmericana

NYC-based Good Greasy & Baked has been described as the Sly and the Family Stone of Old Time Music. While the GGB plays traditional southern stringband music (with fiddle, banjo, guitar, and cello -- they also like to mix it up with some classic country, hip hop, sacred music, and dusty jazz.

Biography

Good Greasy & Baked is a co-ed, interracial, inter-generational string band with an ecumenical approach to American roots music. We play funked-up old-time country & blues, banjo-based rocksteady, traditional girl on girl harmonies--and an original or two, just to shake things up.

Lyrics

First Last Call

Written By: Arminda Thomas

Here's to my first Last Call –
First one since my last Fall,
Here's to the dartboard
and the beer,
And to my new friend, Joe,
I think I'll take him home--
Once one of us can stand and steer.

Say if you don’t wanna go home
Then you don’t have to go home
If you don’t wanna
but you can’t stay here

Here's to my favorite song,
I played it all night long.
God bless the jukebox,
bless the gin.
Seems domesticity
Just wasn’t meant for me;
God knows it wasn’t meant for him.

And if your house ain’t like home
Then you don’t have to go home
If you don’t wanna
but we’re turnin’ in.

Here's to the next Last Calls,
To the squalid bathroom stalls,
To the watered drinks,
to the broken darts.
Turned in my wedding band,
Here's to the one night stand;
Let's lose our heads
and keep our hearts.

If you don’t wanna go home
God I don’t wanna go home
And we don’t have to –
let’s just keep things clear
If you don’t wanna go home
Then you don’t have to go home
If you don’t wanna,
but you can’t stay here.

Love in the Dark

Written By: Arminda Thomas

Goddamn! stubbed my heart again,
Another jagged edge on another broken man.
And even fighting back the tears once more,
I know I never will learn to look where I'm going.

I can't complain, I know,
I'm only saying it can smart
When you go falling in love in the dark
When you go falling in the dark
When you fall

He dropped by with the coke and a loan,
Then decided he might as well stay the night
I took a look at my half-done work,
Then at his half-assed grin and I said "Alright"
Well, alright--

I can't complain, I know,
And I ain't saying it's smart,
It's just so much easier, love in the dark,
It's just so much easier in the dark
It's just so easy...

Goddamn! stubbed my heart again,
Another jagged edge here on this broken man.
But hear him swear, see his tear-stung eyes,
Could be he stabbed his heart on an edge of mine.

It ain't sane, I know
And maybe we ain't so smart
We may belong here, in love in the dark
We may belong here in the dark
We may belong...
