"Good Rocking Sam"

Tired of all this talk about happy holidays and goals for the New Year? Want to hear some scraggly American music that recognizes that the world can be mean and that, hell, it's pretty cold outside? And want that all to happen without feeling too low? Good Rocking Sam should fit your moody bill, with a diverse lot of gritty blues that knows well the cruel ways of the world but chooses to plow past them with a quartet of pals who've been doing this for a decade. They play for free tonight at 8 p.m., with David Terrenoire joining on harmonica. —Grayson Currin - Independent Weekly

Bio

Good Rocking Sam plays what we call Modern Blues with Deep Roots. Most of the songs in our set list are originals. Our original songs draw inspiration from the great Chicago and Texas blues artists of the 1950's and 60's, Memphis Soul, and most everything we've heard and learned on our journeys across America. It is highly danceable, highly listenable, and we have been very successful at playing at a volume that is comfortable for the audience.

We are Dave Sword, drums & vocals; Mike Conway, guitar; Chuck Taylor, bass & vocals; David Mozier, Hammond organ and piano; David Terrenoire, harp. Collectively, it's a groove that is hard to stop.
In September 2012 we played two shows at the Bristol Rhythm and Roots festival in Bristol, TN/VA. This was our second year in a row playing the festival. We play locally at Billsborough Live Music Hall and The Depot in Hillsborough, The Blue Note Grill and Broad Street Caf in Durham, the Kraken and Southern Rail over in the Chapel Hill area, and all over. Over the past 10 years e have also played The City Tap, Papa Mojos, The Cave, The Blue Bayou, The Blue Horn, The General Store, various private events and festivals such as the 2012 Hog Day in Hillsborough and a Haw River Assembly show in 2012 at Chatham Market. We also help sponsor an annual charity event, Jason & Jessie Jam, which is one of the Triangle Community Foundation funds.

We have recorded two full length CD's, Try To Hold On and Luxury Life, and two EP's, First Thing Smoking and *Untitled*. We are currently in preproduction for our next CD Project.
