Gordon Chambers
Love Stories
(Chamber Music)
By A. Scott Galloway

Mr. Chambers is a journalist turned recording artist who has been honing his craft writing and arranging for others, including Anita Baker, the Isley Brothers, Yolanda Adams and Terri & Monica.

For his second album, Love Stories, Chambers paints several vivid portraits of relationships - in various states of sensuality and unrest - and the single life.

Noted for his lyrical sensitivity, earnest tenor voice and soulful first-class production choices, Chambers dazzles your senses with this richly varied disc.

Highlights include the Grammy-worthy closing ballad “If It Wasn’t For Your Love,” the aching, pop-leaning “Unfair,” a duet with female soul dynamo Ledisi titled “To Love Again,” a mash note to the love songs of old titled “Violins,” the thumpin’ plea for reconciliation “Stay Together” (co-composed w/ Eric Bene’t – it’s juicy to ponder the possibility of it being inspired by his relationship with Halle), and Chambers’ own version of the `90s smash he co-penned for Brownstone “If You Love Me” (as in “say it-show it-prove it”).

Ladies are going to love this real man standing up, loud and proud, for real love.

CD Review: From New York city comes Gordon Chambers, an accomplished vocalist/musician/songwriter who has written for Whitney Houston, Anita Baker and Brandy. His latest project embodies all of the reminiscent qualities and soulful characteristics that define vintage R&B music: heart-felt vocals; accessible lyrics; great performances; and organic music production.

This project will provide Gordon with the tangible evidence he needs to build (and win) his case for being one of the most gifted, male singers to attempt to breathe much needed life into the diluted R&B genre, but ironically, his most commercial offering is "Unfair," a hauntingly melodic track with deep lyrical content that is more of a "Pop" flavored tune with chocolate frosting than it is an R&B hit for vanilla audiences. This song is sure to unlock the doors to a myriad of crossover and music licensing opportunities. It's a commercial gem that dutifully and beautifully serves its purpose.

Other fortified additions (or more conventional R&B diamonds) included in this project's repertoire include a funky renditon of Eric Benet's "Stay Together," and "To Love Again," a modern day duet with the illustrious former San Francisco Bay Area phenom and Verve recording artist, Ledisi, and the chilled out romantic summer favorites, "Get To Know," and "Stay."

R&B music lovers have been waiting for Love Stories like these for years. Thanks to Gordon Chambers, the wait is now over.

Advice: Hit the road jack. Hip-Hop dominates the airwaves and this brand of organic R&B is best promoted by taking the message, the movement, and the music straight to the people and generating word of mouth through consistent, outstanding performances.

Bio

THE SONGWRITER AND PRODUCER
Gordon Chambers is no stranger to the music industry. In fact, he has been writing songs since the age of 7! The Teaneck, New Jersey native is currently signed to L.A. Reid's prestigious Hitco Music publishing company where has written for over 60 recording artists, including household names Aretha Franklin, Queen Latifah, Usher, Brandy, Gladys Knight, Chaka Khan and Marc Anthony. He is best known for his 1994 Grammy- winning hit "I Apologize" for Anita Baker and his 1995 #1 Grammy-nominated smash "If You Love Me" for the trio Brownstone (which was later featured as the theme song of the film "Living Out Loud").

More recently, the eight-time ASCAP winner penned tunes for superstars The Isley Brothers ("Just Came Here To Chill"), Yolanda Adams ("Someone Watching Over Me"), Patti Labelle & Ron Isley ("Gotta Go Solo"), Whitney Houston and Bobby Brown ("My Love"), R&B crooner Carl Thomas ("My Valentine"), breakthrough soul singer Angie Stone "No More Rain (In This Cloud)" and pop sensation Beyonce ("After All Is Said And Done"). Over the years, his compositions have been performed at the ESSENCE awards, the American Music Awards and the Goodwill Games--as well as six major motion pictures.

Songwriting still doesn't feel like a job to the Brooklyn-based still-single Chambers. It is, instead, he says, "a labor of love and a dream come true." As a way of giving back, he performs for charities and frequently speaks to students all over the country. He has received community service awards from the New York youth organizations Boys Harbor and the Bay Shore Schools Arts Education Fund,.

Over the last three years, Chambers has been performing up a storm in New York City, DC, Detroit, Atlanta, Chicago, London and a set at the 2005 Essence Music Festival in New Orleans. "This has been a labor of love," he says. "After working with so many of my idols, the time came for me to work on my own project and express some things that only I could say." Produced by Chambers with Troy Taylor (B2K), Barry Eastmond (Anita Baker) and Brian Bacchus (Norah Jones), his debut album Introducing Gordon Chambers is classic R&B with hints of his first love: jazz. The album featured Carl Thomas, Roy Hargrove and Mike Phillips and was nominated by Soultracks.com as Best Independent Soul Album of the year, and Chambers was featured on the cover of Billboard on July 1, 2006 on a story highlighting the independent soul movement: a wonderful set-up for new more uptempo sophomore solo release Love Stories, which features duets with Ledisi and Melonie Daniels and is getting rave reviews around the world.
