Bio

Metaphor za Mtaa is a collaboration of the Kenyan rappers Goreala and Projekt with French DJ BoulaOne. It was conceived and recorded in the ghetto studio Ragz2Records, especially founded to nurture talent from the ghettos. The studio develops the artistic quality of the artists and creates visibility around the issues of slum life.

Goreala is the pseudonym for 25 year old Eric Mukunza a hardcore underground rapper who comes from Kayole, a violent ghetto neighborhood in the city of Nairobi. His love for hip-hop emerged when he was a kid and he started out by free styling. Like many other underground hip-hop artists this young man went to showcase his talent in various clubs among them Florida 2000 (F2) which is a famous club in Nairobi for giving opportunities to upcoming artists.

“I want to make good music and art that the audience, irrespective of age, color or creed will appreciate and embrace.” Goreala draws his inspiration from the most vulnerable members of the society - hungry children and starving mothers. Having grown up in the Kayole suburb in Nairobi Goreala got used to violence at a very early age. Many days he would witness public lynchings of thieves in his neighbourhood.
Goreala uses the continuing experiences of his life in the ghettos against the dramatic backdrop of huge unemployment, hunger and the HIV/AIDS epidemic in his lyrics and his humble life style. The very fact that he is a rapper comes from the urge to do anything else than getting into crime and being idle on the streets for endless years.

His formerly released songs include ‘Put the Mic Down’ the remix and original, ‘Regular Time’, and ‘Amnesia’. He has also shot a video for ‘Put the Mic Down’ which received major airplay from MTV Africa. The Street Metaphors release received major press in the Netherlands.
