Governing Murphy

Governing Murphy

BandRock

Governing Murphy is the melding of four souls and four differing tastes in music that creates a truth in music so lacking in the popular culture, where the music business is about the image and the repackaging of the same tired music. We also bring back the excitement and brotherhood no one else has

Biography

Governing Murphy grew out of the cover band scene of the Lehigh Valley, Pennsylvania. Ron Murphy was doing his time in a local band, but knew in his heart his future was in the originals he was writing. After talks with RCA records as a song writer broke down, he took it as a sign that he needed to get his music heard by the people that truly mattered: the public. Realizing that his strength was in guitar playing and songwriting, and not singing, he contacted his friend, Wally Govern, whom he had heard singing with his band. Murph knew that Wally had the voice that would really make his compositions shine. Wally loved the songs, and when they discovered that the two of them were able to write songs as one voice, they joined forces and began working on their first batch of songs together.

Occasionally, they would go out as Governing Murphy- an acoustic duo- and perform their music to a very receptive audience. They were enjoying the limited success they were having with their acoustic renditions, in their heads, they heard their efforts as full-on rockers with the loud, distorted guitars, slamming drums, thumping bass, and with Wally's vocals unleashed.

As if it were a sign from the musical gods, almost immediately, they found out that mutual friend and Murph's former bandmate, Bill Caufman, was leaving his band. Murph immediately hogtied him, and they had a drummer. Once the three of them started rehearsing together, they knew they had found the right person to add the driving rhythms, and to make their songs as explosive as was possible. They were ready to take on the world... except for one thing....

With shows scheduled, and still missing a key ingredient, Governing Murphy started advertising for a bass player. Murph was contacted by Ringo Short, a former band mate, who offered to fill in short term until they found the right guy for them. His offer was accepted, and they began rehearsals. After the first rehearsal, it was obvious that Governing Murphy was complete, and they set out on their quest to dominate the known universe and to slightly upset the unknown universe.
