Governor Slugwell

Governor Slugwell is most commonly known for his work as the founder and president of the Grand Rapids Hip Hop Coalition, co founder of The Promoter Magazine and Grand Rapids HipHop.Com.

However, he is also one of the pioneer's of Michigan HipHop as a recording artist with the group New Concept. As an artist, at the age of 17, he signed his first recording deal and went on tour with RUN DMC, he has performed in concert with Classic HipHop Artist such as Jazzy Jeff and The Fresh Prince,EPMD, Kool Moe Dee, Eric B and Rakim, LL Cool J, Ultra Magnetic Mc's and more.

He is affectionatly referred to as "SLASHER" an entrepreneur/ promoter/dj/ producer/ columnist/community advocate lol, You get my drift?! He has also hosted of his own radio show "The Governor's Mansion" on 1140 Am in Grand Rapids,MI. His organization hosts Annual event's Hip Hop Appreciation Week and HipHop History Month as well events throughout the year that focus's on educating the youth and community about Hip Hop and the positive effects it can have on the community.

As a member of The Temple Of HipHop, Governor Slugwell has achevied the level of a HipHop Kultural Specialist, an honor bestowed upon only a handfull of HipHoppa's around the world. A (HHKS) HipHop Kultural Specialist is someone who deals with HipHop beyond music and has dedicated their lives to the progress of HipHop as a Nation and understands the spritual principles of the Kulture..

The Temple of Hiphop is a Ministry, Archive, School, and Society (M.A.S.S.) founded by KRS-One. Its goal is to maintain and promote Hip Hop culture. The Temple of Hiphop maintains that Hiphop is a genuine political movement and culture, as it has been accepted by the United Nations as a culture. The Temple of Hiphop calls on all Hip-Hop fans to celebrate Hip Hop Appreciation Week, occurring in mid-May. It encourages DJs and MCs to teach people about the culture of Hip Hop, to write more socially conscious songs, and radio stations to play more socially conscious Hip Hop. Hip Hop Appreciation Week is celebrated on the third week of May each year and Hip Hop History Month in (November,).

Governor Slugwell believes that HipHop is the tool that God used to save his life and therefore can be used to save others.
