Bio

Govoner Chavers
Not many artists start with the kind of history and name for himself as Govoner Chavers has. Growing up in Canton, Ohio he was one of five kids. Govoner was driven and began boxing at young age of 15. Looking up to boxing legend Sugar Ray Leonard, Chavers stayed focused and became a professional boxer at age 24. Chavers was honored a position in the prestigious United States Boxing Team against the Soviet Union. The former Ohio Golden Gloves Champion had bouts against many including friend James‘Lights Out’Toney. Brought up with a do it all attitude, Chavers began writing songs as part of his intense training schedule.

One day, Govoner came across a lucky solid top six string at a garage sale and began to teach himself the guitar. Without formal training in music, his creativity eventually lead him to write over one hundred songs in his repertoire. While that is a feat in itself, Govoner is able to capture the true bare bone guts of music. With life imitating art compositions of love, loss, and the trials and tribulations, he was experiencing daily with boxing, marriage and what it takes to keep it all together.

Chavers has called San Antonio home for years now, working as a truck driver/instructor. His truck driving has given him the time to write but also has sculpted his sound and ability as a performer. Driving from rural towns to large cities, Govoner has joined jam sessions at bars and truck stops across the Midwest.

Inspired by artists like James Taylor & Bonnie Rait the crossover from blues to Country or even Jazz, runs parallel fusing unsurpassed sound with many diverse elements. Switching from guitar to piano, another element that is noticed is mariachi music. Mariachi music is one of the first things Govoner loved about the city its independent homegrown sound of the musician.

Years of solid work, with a committed fan base, live shows are very interesting newcomers can easily feed off his energy and sing along after hearing just the first chorus of a song. Backing up Govoner is a band with more diversity, but will always vary from just an upright bass player, vocalist, percussion or just solo with his guitar & stool.

Currently a self-titled debut album is being recorded with Xavier Ramirez (Higher Intention Productions) & Travis J McGehee (Sudden Impact Records). “The most important element is Govoner’s ability as a writer, just as James Taylor is able to capture and write something simple honest & true, Govoner captivates an audience with familiar ground”- X Ramirez.
