Grandparents

Portland band Grandparents are wrapping up their summer by preparing for the fall release of their album, Sincerely, Bagman. First single "Kids in the Alley" is a bright, bold embrace of being carefree. Fittingly, the video that accompanies it is an all-American tour of lakes, beer, crushed berries, and melting ice-cream.
"For the 'Kids in the Alley' video we tried to capture the joyous debauchery that leaks from sun dazed pores for a short three months, and preserve it for later use, when light and heat are in short supply," guitarist Dylan White told The FADER.
To bring the band's vision to life, filmmaker Emma Hall-Martin used 8mm film, giving the summer moments captured in the video the sheen of sunny nostalgia that makes it apt for shortening days. The band says Sincerely, Bagman was recorded largely during the winter, "milking a cassette recorder for all its worth and trying to exorcise the sounds we had bouncing around in our vitamin D deficient brains." Strange Light Records will release Grandparents' debut album on October 23. - The Fader

If you live in Portland and really like guitars, you probably already know who six-piece garage-rock band Grandparents are. If you're unfamiliar, get educated because this attractive bunch have a big year ahead of them. Grandparents have been sprinkling releases here and there for a minute, but haven't officially released anything since their last EP titled Fumes three years ago. This year they will be gracing festivals like Treefort and SXSW in anticipation for their first full-length record release later in the year (name and release date TBD). We're premiering their new happy track "Kids in the Alley," which starts off with sing-song elements of a Flaming Lips song, and is quickly flipped into a groovy psych dream.
