Bio

Through furiously intense rock songs to the alt-country ballads they are known for, Grantham Road displays a diversity that keeps their audience’s attention and brings them back show after show.

The group is lead by guitarist, singer and songwriter, Flint Zeigler. Under Flint’s direction, the group recorded their first album in 2001. “Something More Appropriate” gave a clear indication of the band’s influences, which range from Tom Petty, Neil Young and Bruce Springsteen on the rock side, to Johnny Cash, George Jones and Dwight Yocum from the country world.

But they weren’t satisfied with what they had and so the trio brought on a fourth member to fill out the sounds and textures in Zeigler's head. What they created was a band who’s sound won the hearts of fans throughout central-Pennsylvania. So back to the studio they went to record a second album. It was at this time that they met Jeff Feltenberger, former member of the Badlees and now a successful local producer. Jeff liked where the band was coming from and offered his production help, but the album was almost finished. So he had to settle for helping out only in the final stages of what became 2004’s release, “Desperate Times.” That CD has gone on to help the band gain many new fans and solidly established them as a viable touring act in their home region. More importantly, though, is the working relationship that they developed through this project with Feltenberger.

Part of Jeff’s job as a producer is to help the band define their goals. Through this process, it was determined that not everyone in the band wanted the same thing. So for a brief time Flint went solo. Steve Geyer, however, was still with him to record a version of “Angels We Have Heard on High” for the Central-PA Christmas Compilation (Susquehanna Entertainment, released 11/04). Feltenberger produced the track from beginning to end and the result was nothing less than spectacular. It received regular airplay during the holiday season on influential PA radio stations, including WXPN (Philadelphia), WRVV & WTPA (Harrisburg), WRFY (Reading) and many more. A review in the Lancaster Sunday News was typical: “Flint’s rendition of “Angels We Have Heard on High” is a cover, but it soars with a transforming originality. His singer-songwriter intimacy invests the carol with an ethereal tone…”

The engineer for the recording of “Angels” was Jason Shaffer, who is also an accomplished musician. He enjoyed working with the guys in the studio, so he picked up the bass and started playing shows with them. The vibe between Flint, Steve and Jason was evident, and they shared a common goal. Thus, the new Grantham Road was born.

Plans are now in the works for a new album, tentatively scheduled for release on November 9, 2005. Former Badlees manager, Terry Selders, is working with the group and will put the CD out on his own Susquehanna Entertainment label. They also plan to re-release “Angels” nationwide this Christmas. Promotion for all singles will be geared toward triple-A and Americana radio across the country, as well as other targeted stations in Pennsylvania.
