"Review of Promises"

"Promises"

(Posted On 04.11.03) by g0d

This is a new band out of Brooklyn, NY. This demo I recieved is a 4 song demo, and I have to say, it's pretty damn good. This band combines hard rocking riffs much to the like of Demon Hunter on songs like the "Promises", the first song on the disc. Lead singer Igor's vocals rise from a hard scream to a melodic, crisp, and complete singing voice. The guitars on this song are phenominal. The guitarists, John and Joe are letting it out on this one. The music on this song reminds me of Sw1tched. The Brooklyn scene is one of the best, and it's obvious where these guys get their influences from. Sharing the stage with such acts as Biohazard, Sworn Enemy, and E.Town Concrete shows where these guys are coming from. "No Friend Of Mine" is another crunched up tune, a little grunge sounding at times, but still Gravesend. "Song B" is a little slower. The song is a departure from the previous tracks, though it has signature Gravesend squeal of Igor near the chorus. "As High", the last song on the demo, is addicting. It's a great song that gives you a couple last thoughts about Gravesend. It's obvious these guys have influences, along with their own special touch. This demo owns. Get it at http://gravesend1.com. Rating:8.5/10

Bio

Conceived in a district of New York known as Brooklyn, Gravesend distinctly sticks out among the mix of numerous hardcore and metal bands. By combining their influences of emo, hardcore, metal and rock, this 5-piece band creates a sound that is entirely their own. From heartfelt songs such as "Convincing yourself arrows don't hurt" to energetic explosions such as "Let my blood be ink." The band pours everything into their music.

Form in late 2003, Gravesend has been building a steady following by touring the New York and New Jersey areas for the past year. With lead singer Igor fronting the band with his energetic and emotional stage presence, along side lead guitarist John's, out of control guitar style, coupled with Joe, Tom and Brian's brutal assault in the rhythm section, news about Gravesend is spreading rapidly by word of mouth. Learning much from their past experiences and sharing stages with such acts as Biohazard, The Misfits, Candiria, Sworn Enemy and E-Town Concrete, the band continues to grow musically and mentally, preparing for whatever is thrown at them.

In 2004, Gravesend will be releasing their debut EP titled "Portrait of a Dying Dream" which fully embodies the bands strong song writing ability. The band continues to tour in support of the new album gaining an even larger following then already obtained. Gravesend is now ready to face the world and embrace everything that comes their way.
