Gray Gurkin - Singer / Songwriter - Acoustic Music From The Heart - Rock - N - Roll

Biography

Born and raised in Richmond, Virginia, Gray Gurkin started writing and performing his original songs at the age of 16 in local coffeehouses. He expanded his songwriting skills playing his unique blend of Pop Rock in local bands during the 90’s. After college he made a living as a solo acoustic act on the Outer Banks of North Carolina. From there he headed down to Atlanta, Georgia, joining forces with the vibrant acoustic community. During the late 90’s Gray was heavily influenced by Americana Roots Music and decided to move to Austin, Texas to pursue his music. Gray performed often with his band "Hubcap Fetish" on Austin's known 6th Street and also recorded an Acoustic CD titled “Six Pack”. Gray moved back to his home town in 2002 and has been very involved in the songwriting side of the music business including hitting the Nashville songwriter’s scene.

In 2007 Gray jumped back in the ring as a performing artist and has not looked back. His music branded projects "Glitter Boot" and "The Lost Souls" took on the big stages with a ton of energy backed by his signature songwriting. This was all possible by the talented musicians that helped back his projects. During this time he released his CD titled "Horseshoes". In 2013 he released an Acoustic CD, Signs of Hope" which showcased his songwriting craft accompanied by passionate vocals.

Gray's 2015 project "Gray Gurkin and the Black Concert Tees" featured Crawford Turner on Bass and Steve Ashby on lead guitar. It was a nice change from solo acoustic and the band played several successful shows. 2016 sees Gray going back to his solo acoustic roots. Stay tuned on upcoming show announcements.

The Underdogs

Written By: Gray Gurkin

The Underdogs - By Gray Gurkin © 2009

They’ve been down in the dirt
Hundreds of times if not more
Got to know, it hurts
Feel their pain, watch the score

Center Stage, Spotlight
I think I hear a victory cry
Make it loud, Spell it out
V-I-C-T-O-R-Y!

Stand up for The Underdogs
They got more gumption than your average Joe
Give it up for The Underdogs
You can’t count them out because you never know
They Rock… And They Roll…
Here they come, Here they come
The Underdogs

They roll the dice, They tow the line
Determination cuts to the core
with the plays in their minds
Working up a rally, watch the score

Center Stage, Spotlight
I think I hear a victory cry
Make it loud, Spell it out
V-I-C-T-O-R-Y!

Stand up for The Underdogs
They got more gumption than your average Joe
Give it up for The Underdogs
You can’t count them out because you never know
They Rock… And They Roll…
Here they come, Here they come
The Underdogs

Born to fight and Never give up
Their Blood, Sweat and Tears makes them tough
And tonight - - their time - - has come - -

They got the HUNGER
They got the FIRE (Shot, Shot, Shot, Shot)
They got the POWER
They got DESIRE (Shot, Shot, Shot, Shot)
They got a SHOT to Win !

Stand up for The Underdogs
They got more gumption than your average Joe
Give it up for The Underdogs
You can’t count them out because you never know

Stand up for The Underdogs
They got more gumption than your average Joe
Give it up for The Underdogs
You can’t count them out because you never know

Matchbook

Written By: Gray Gurkin

Matchbook
By Gray Gurkin © 2009

There was a matchbook on the table
Reading the Horseshoe Lounge
There was a matchbook on the table
Lucky Strikes I sat down
Neon Reds & Fluorescent Greens
I still see that light
Burning you back to memory
Like Christmas in July

What ut O What ut O What ut O yah
What ut O What ut O What ut O yah

There was a matchbook on the table
That reminded me of that place
A little matchbook on the table
That reminded me of your face
Crushed cigarettes & faded lights
Smoke from an ashtray
Gold tunes on a rusty jukebox
Dancing the night away

What ut O What ut O What ut O yah
What ut O What ut O What ut O yah

Can’t you see
Good times (good times, good times)
Can’t you hear
Those Wind chimes
Chiming
Smiling
Blowing in the wind

There was a matchbook on the table
in a little Texas town
A little matchbook on the table
Reading the Horseshoe Lounge

What ut O What ut O What ut O yah
What ut O What ut O What ut O yah

Where did those years go?
How have you been?
Talking to a matchbook like a friend
You got me guessing reading my mind
Conjuring up memories
Of damn good times
damn good times
Sweet Sweet times
You’re blowing my mind

Let's make a date
I'll pick you up at 8:00
We'll paint the town
Red, White and Blue
me and you

You kissed me on the lips
My butterflies went flip
I'm jumping over the moon
a-bout you
You - hoo hoo

Chorus:
We hold hands under a blue full moon
Laugh and smile acting like crazy fools
Doing all those things that lovers do
I-L-O-V-E ...
Y-O-U

Gonna pick some flowers
In the morning hours
Hand deliver with a kiss
Just for you
You - hoo hoo

My how time flies by
Your still my smoke and fire
Fireworks flying since the day
I met you
Boom, Boom, Boom

Chorus:
We hold hands under a blue full moon
Laugh and smile acting like crazy fools
Doing all those things that lovers do
I-L-O-V-E ...
Y-O-U

Solo - "I love you"

Bridge
Not sure what brought us together
Those funny feelings - we'll make it forever
We'll beat the odds - Let's take a chance
I'm down on one knee asking for your hand
Whatda yah say, I Love You
Through good times and bad - yes I do......

Chorus:
We hold hands under a blue full moon
Laugh and smile acting like crazy fools
Doing all those things that lovers do
I-L-O-V-E ...
Y-O-U (You - hoo hoo)
I Love You (You - hoo hoo)
I Love You (You - hoo hoo)

Show Me The Way

Show Me The Way
By Gray Gurkin 2012

I was deep down in the dirt
Going down, down, down
You pulled me up and then I saw the light
I brushed the pain to the side
wiped the cobwebs from my head
And I prayed, prayed to the light

Show me the way
Guide me with strength
To a Better Life

You know I love to see your face
on those rainy days
Your sunshine, shines so bright
You stole the thunder from the clouds
Turned rain into rainbows
And you glow, glow so bright

Show me the way
Guide me with strength
To a Better Life

Build Me Up with your love and devotion
Keep me Glowing
Fill Me Up with your strength and courage
Keep me Going
Wake Me Up if I ever come down
Keep me Knowing
That your Way, is true

Show me the way
Guide me with strength
Show me the way
Guide me with strength
To a Better Life , To a Better Life
To a Better Life

Miracle

Written By: Gray Gurkin

Miracle - Gray Gurkin - ©2012

The still wind blew me over
Like a deep freeze on a hot summer day
Impossible proven wrong
Theories and laws out the door

On a day I needed it most
You answered my prayers and so much more
You gave me faith
Signs of hope
I held them close
You opened the door

Thank You Miracle
For never giving up on me
Thank You Miracle
For hearing my whisper scream
You heard my cry
It’s easy to see
Miracle

The 10 o’clock news said a man lived
From 6 bullets holes from a 45
Unbelievable he’s not dead
I knew the secret how he survived

He had a Miracle
His own set of wings
A beautiful Miracle
Sweet angels sing
You kept him alive
Now I believe
Miracle
Miracle

I saw your work with the girl in deep trouble
And on the first day I held my child’s hand
You can’t win ‘em all
But when your backs to the wall
It doesn't hurt
to believe

Miracle
Miracle
Miracle
