Rodrick Gray ,better known by his stage name GrayDay, is an American rapper, singer-songwriter.
Gray was born on October 18, 1976, in New Orleans, Louisiana.He is the son of Rachel, a retired state worker, and Abraham Bell, a truck driver. Throughout his childhood, Gray attended public school.At age ten, he began performing with his church choir. When he was twelve,he recorded with St. Mary's Community Choir. At the age of 16, Stephens attended L.B. Landry High School, where he participated in track and field and went on to become state champion in the 55m high hurdles.Then,unexpectedly dropped from high school weeks before graduation.
According to Gray, he was offered scholarships to Texas A&M,Rice University and the University of Pennsylvania amongst others.He decided to skip college for a year and attend Job Corps to gain some life experience.While in Job Corps he attained a G.E.D. Gray then enrolled at Nicholls St. University where he would pursue a degree in journalism, but that was abruptly interrupted when he was expelled for poss. of marijuana.Gray then formed a rap group called X-Treme Team a super rap group consisting of 9 members.The group would go on to perform local venues such as Xavier University Spring Fest while gaining some notariaty in the city. The group was invited to Atlanta for an audition with several major labels, but to no avail.
Shortly after, Gray fell into deep depression, reckless behavior followed, eventually leading to incarceration. He there developed a personal relationship with God and found new purpose for life. Meanwhile, those closest to him were facing a storm of their own Hurricane Katrina.Upon being released Gray immediately assumed his position in the church singing , writing,and directing.He continued singing and writing for the next five years while working as an electrician.
In, 2010,Gray began working with some local artist writing and consulting at the same time forming his own lawn care service named GrayDay Services,LLC. During this time, he began working on his demo and began sending his work to various record labels.In late 2013 he will release his highly anticipated debut EP which features his hit single "Let's Love". After going through a few name changes GrayDay stuck with him for numerous reasons.
