Great American Taxi shredded the warm air into tiny bits. The dance floor at the Moon literally buckled under the pounding feet of the dancers. The high mountain looniness was such that one couldn't help but soak in a vibe capable of resonating all year long. Great American Taxi threw down perhaps the best and most spirited sets of the weekend on Sunday night, blending ska, jam, bluegrass, newgrass, cajun and a kitchen sink.

Up at the top of the hill, while Green Lemon (the self-called intergalactic skanksters and not newcomers to the 10,000 Lakes Festival) played the Saloon and entertained with their unique song-writing and musical skills, Vince Herman and his newest group Great American Taxi, took us on one of the best rides of the weekend. Including Jefferson Hamer, Chad Staehly, Jake Coffin, and Brian Schey, this incarnation of Americana meets slam-grass with a groove, included "Wandering" and other old favorites. - Glide Magazine

GREAT AMERICAN TAXI -- This is one show that I regret not making it to. As we walked up the hill to see what was going on people were leaving but they were not leaving quietly. The entire crowd was still chanting the last words and phrases that the band had got them cheering. Some were staying hoping for more, some were dancing around screaming and anyone leaving was chanting at the top of their lungs. I heard from several people that this was one of the most fun shows of the weekend.....I plan on making sure to get to Great American Taxi shows in the future every time I can. - Jammedonline

Taxi has a debut CD 'Streets Of Gold' due out in April 2007. Some of the tracks are available for streaming here!

The electric-Americana group Great American Taxi is one of those brilliant, rare gems on the club and festival circuit- a fun, danceable jamband with great original songs. Since parting ways with legendary jamgrass pioneers Leftover Salmon, Taxi driver Vince Herman has been writing and collecting new classics to add to his vast catalogue of southern swamp-rock, underground country, and Guthrie-tinged political satire culled from over 20 years of traveling the North American continent. Guitarist and songwriter Jefferson Hamer writes new rock and indie-country songs that recall the 6 and 12-string psychedelic twang of the Byrds and Gram Parsons. Founder and keyboardist Chad Staehly contributes literate, melodic tunes in the vintage country rock tradition. With additional vocals and a powerful big-room feel provided by drummer Jake Coffin and bassist Edwin Hurwitz, Great American Taxi has enough top-shelf material to keep even the most devoted, traveling fans wondering what could possibly come next. While it's impossible to predict- the band has welcomed Little Feat, YMSB's Jeff Austin, and even Coolio onstage as special guests, and has played impromptu covers of songs by the Black Eyed Peas, Frank Zappa, and the Beach Boys- fans are turning out in rapidly-increasing numbers to hear Taxi play their signature songs. No other ensemble performing today moves so effortlessly across the roots-rock spectrum. Through it all, they keep the audience dancing and occasionally, laughing along and that is why, in little over one year together, Great American Taxi has emerged as one of the most impressive live acts in the jam-rock field.
