The best kept secret in music

"Great Beast - Go Get It, Go Crazy"

4 long tracks of eminently danceable/groovesque party time music (with a social conscience!).

Mix the best elements of funk, rocksteady, dancehall, big band, samba and swingin jazz and you have quite a treat. Incredible musicianship, and some excellent composition and arrangement make this a definite stand out for those hot, sultry nights.

Go get it. Go crazy. - Amp Magazine

"Socially conscious funk for the people!"

Though his compositions vacillate from solid grooves of deep funk to playful time signature experimentations, there is no doubt that Tal Ariel lives in the pocket.

The continual thread of political rabble-rousing incites and invites you to use your mind, wisely.

Their energetic live shows are the best way to experience Great Beast, but this album is highly recommended listening. - Ari Pomerantz, Pump Audio

Feeling a bit camera shy

Great Beast is a Radical Funk Orchestra and one of the most exciting and original musical forces to sweep the San Francisco Bay Area. With influences including Herbie Hancock, Led Zeppelin, Steely Dan, Jobim and Rush, Great Beast weaves a mesmerizing web of Funk, Jazz, Rock, and World elements, captivating audiences with funky grooves, tight horn arrangements, melodic hooks, and virtuosic instrumental jams.

More than just a musical dynamo that will make you dance, jump, sing, smile and think, Great Beast is committed to promoting peace, equality, social justice, and environmental responsibility.

Tal Ariel, founder of Great Beast, composes, arranges and plays keyboards for the band. Tal has studied with jazz legends such as Reggie Workman, Joe Chambers, Junior Mance, and Bobby Sanabria. He has performed on prime time television and in various venues around the world.

On drums is award-winning gospel drummer Thomas McCree, providing extra flair with his unparalleled drumstick acrobatics. Thomas continues to light up the gospel world, while also performing with artists such as Wisdom, Tanya Fermin, and Variable Unit.

Laying down the deep end is Nuyorican bassist Mark Anthony Calderon, a highly sought after ace session player and live performer in the S.F. Bay Area. Mark has performed around the globe with internationally renowned artists such as Wycleff Jean, Zigaboo Modeliste, and Dr. John.

Matt Crampton boasts an explosive and fluid style both on trumpet and vocals. He has studied with Anthony Braxton and Pheeroan AkLaff, and has performed worldwide with various artists including Chris Dingman and Steve Lehman.

Trombonist and producer Charlie Wilson mixes his strong jazz background and love of all soulful music to form a potent blend of melody, harmony and groove. Charlie also produced and recorded Great Beast’s debut EP.

Guitarist Khalil Doak-Anthony defies not only physics, but categorization with his playing. A subtle cross between Pat Metheny, Buckethead, George Benson, and Jimi Hendrix, Khalil harmonizes new ideas and classic genius in ways that contribute to Jazz, Nu Jazz, Funk , Top 40, Pop, Latin, and Hip Hop all with equal brilliance.

Equally adept at most musical styles, Tamika Nicole pushes the limits of musical genres and brings a higher consciousness to the experience of music with her soulful and seductive voice.
