Great South Band

Great South Band

BandPopFolk

The Great South Band is Shenoa, Kian & Jay South plus special guests. Music is fun for us, but we also believe that music is the universal language, and with it we can make the world a better place for all people, no matter what race, creed or color and no matter where they might live.

Biography

GSB emerged during the early half of 2005 when Kian and Shenoa were given the opportunity by their school to play a piece at the annual school Pizza Party - an informal and casual turnout of school's budding young musicians.

Accompanied by their Dad, Jay South the trio came up with an epic rendition of a Pete Seeger & Lee Hays song If I Had a Hammer made famous by a number of artists including Peter, Paul & Mary and Trini Lopez.

The GSB version included Jay on guitar, Shenoa on cello, and Kian on drum and tambourine with Jay & Shenoa singing the vocal. In one verse words were changed slightly to

"If I had a cello, I'd play it in the morning …"

Kian used his home practice drum .. a round plastic Lego block container with a lid. But the one thing that caught most people's attention was the plastic toy hammer which Kian used for the beat.

The audience response was very, very encouraging. So encouraging in fact that it allowed Dad to have some dreams …

As a result of those dreams and a little elbow grease, we have today …. The Great South Band !

The band has since performed at the Tamworth Music Festival, The Entrance Music Festival, local songwriter nights and school fetes.

Shenoa has also performed in a Sydney production of Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat.

Lyrics

Mummy is Doing Her Excercise

Written By: Shenoa & Jay South

(Chorus)
Mummy is doing her exercise
Mummy is doing her exercise
Mummy is doing her exercise cause its early in the morning

Mummy is doing her wibbly wobbly woos
Mummy is doing her wibbly wobbly woos
Mummy is doing her wibbly wobbly woos cause its early in the morning

Mummy is doing her funny little jumps
Mummy is doing her funny little jumps
Mummy is doing her funny little jumps cause its early in the morning

Mummy's bits and pieces are bouncing up and down
Mummy's bits and pieces are flapping all around
Mummy's bits and pieces are bouncing up and down
Cause its early in the morning

Mummy is getting really cranky now
Because we are laughing at her funny little bows
Mummy is getting really cranky now cause its early in the morning

[Sing Chorus. again]

This World's So Bright

Written By: Shenoa South

When your river’s dry
And your hope becomes hollow
You don’t have to worry
Eventual-ly that river will flow

If your lone-ly
And you have no-one to hold
You don’t have to worry
There’s a lot of peo-ple who aint cold
Ooo yeah !!!

Chorus
Because this world’s so bright
And its such an amazing sight
And there’s so many people who try
To hold on
With all their might
Try to hold on tight

If your light inside
Is dim but tries to shine
You don’t have to worry
Its just a sim-ple matter of time

Love will surround you
No matter where you may be
When you can trust and believe it
Your inner light will come shining through

Repeat Chorus

Because this world’s so bright
