Discography

We've been in and out of Retromedia Studios in Red Bank, NJ (college and schedule-permitting) tracking our first record which, upon completion, is to be mixed by Charles Bissell of the Wrens. Members of the Wrens and Joseph Ferocious have also contributed to the recording, development and preliminary mixing of the record.

Bio

Ben High and Chris Rowland met in high school. This is a profound event that rarely occurs between band members and its importance cannot be underestimated.

Joking aside, Chris, a long time bass-player and Ben, a burgeoning songwriter in his own right, soon formed a band in their later years of High School, with Chris manning bass and laptop-duties; Ben singing, writing the songs, and playing guitar. It began as a fun weekend-diversion, but five years later has transformed into something far more.

During the time with this band, they formed a label (Storybook Records) and distributed records by other local artists and friends, as well as their own self-recorded EP. This led to semi-national attention and write-ups in NYC-based blogs, and a feature in Cloak & Dagger Media, as well as Pitchfork.

But college got in the way, as it sometimes does, and the label and the band's dissolution quickly, albeit amiably, followed.

Upon starting a new solo project, Ben quickly realized that, as successful and fulfilling as his prior endeavors were, the songs he had been writing on his own simply weren't being done justice with a Mac and an acoustic guitar. Ben, a lifelong record geek and subsequent perfectionist, quickly realized this; it wasn't before long that he and Chris reunited and promptly formed a group with friends they had made during the years of running their label. Not long after, Green Arrows was christened and quickly made a splash in the major local scene, headlining the Stone Pony on multiple occasions, opening for touring bands at the legendary Maxwells, the equally legendary Knitting Fctory, and playing
countless other shows in the New Jersey and New York area (including headlining one of the last shows ever at CBGB); not to mention having been featured in in-studio and interview sessions on local college radio, including WRSU Rutgers, and WBJB 90.5 The Night Brookdale College Radio.

Green Arrows' sound is a pleasant mix of Shins and Pavement-influenced indie-pop with notably strong interplay between Eric (lead guitar), and Andrew, an accomplished pianist (the two grew up as childhood friends). But it's also more than that. Much more. There are elements of deeper, pop-country-inspired tunes by bands such as The Mayflies USA, Old 97's, The Replacements, Portastatic, and the Wrens, (their hometown heroes and friends). And with the recent inclusion of multi-instrumentalist and vocalist Angelina Davis, Green Arrows' sound has become even more substantial, bringing the essence of the songs to the fore and making them exactly what they should be: perfectly crafted, artful pieces of heartbreak, hope, happiness, and hard-nosed indie-rock.

But regardless of influence or semantics, Green Arrows is an incredibly inspired, talented and vital band with tunes that, while pleasant on the surface, have a depth that is far more rewarding upon closer inspection - just as any great art. Let this band into your life: you will be glad you did.
