"Track of the Day: Time's Fell Hand"

A little while back I posted a track by one of my favorite new local band’s called BOATTS. Well, it appears the band has undergone a bit of a transformation. Although band members Len O’Neill (vocals/guitar), Steve Doyle (drums), Keegan McGregor (bass), Erin Eaton (keys/vocals) and Joanna Barker (percussion/vocals) all remain constant, but once they discovered another band had already claimed their old moniker, the group as decided to change its name to Green & Gold.

I like Green & Gold much better. It matches the group’s beautiful, emotionally-charged anthems well, like today’s track “Times Fell Hand”. The song comes from a live performance at The Levee this past July and the video was masterfully produced by George Newman (Georgie & JoMo/Temples). Enjoy, and if you hear of these guys playing live anytime soon be sure to check them out. - The Scope

"Looking back at what music happened in 2013 in St. John's. Some great records, lots of great shows. The more I think about it, the more it seems like 2013 was Green and Gold's year. The band debuted in the spring, played an insane amount of shows for any new group, released their debut album, went on a tour outside the province, and ended the year opening all the big Christmas shows including Hey Rosetta's Mile One gigs, Mark Bragg's Annual Boxing Day show and tonight Baytown release at the Rock House. Well done Green and Gold! Have a drink and put your feet up for a night."

"On The Record with Green & Gold"

Green and Gold were 2013′s breakout band of the year, no question about it. They’re one of the best live acts this city has seen in years, they play a staggering number of shows, and their album, The Body Knows, is by many people’s opinion, the album of the year. Big words, for a province that churns out 200 albums a year, and The Body Knows really is an instant St. John’s classic. Somewhere between the big fat bass letting loose, and its full-bodied, jangling strat pulling out those catchy moves, and the way their innovative drummer plays off their floor-tom thudding drummer-on-the-side, there’s a lot to love about every song on the album. Even the lyrics have substance. These eight songs are carefully constructed and do everything right. And this sound: the local music scene has been needing this sound, exactly this sound. - The Overcast

The four-piece group performs original songs that have been described as beautiful, emotionally charged anthems that unfold into a spirited and energetic live show. The group's debut album "The Body Knows" was well received in their home province, where The Overcast voted them The Best Local Band and Best Album of the Year.  Green & Gold has opened for Zeus, Hey Rosetta and Wintersleep and have toured Central & Eastern Canada extensively.
